toledo 1300 engine probs

hi ,i have just changed head gasket on my toledo and car wont start it seems to spinning over to fast as if no compression.the fuel is getting to the  carbs and plugs are sparking and not wet if i have fitted a non reccesed head gasket would this cause this problem.thanks pete

Has the  engine got recesses around the bores? Did the old gasket have a tab sticking out at the back? If so yes, it would be the issue.

yes the engine has a resesses and the old gaset had a tag ,do you know where i can buy a ressesed gasket

But very common, fits later spitfire/dolomite 1300 and 1500.

I have always used Payen, decent quality.

Yes, the tag is to identify it as a recessed type.

dont laugh but i put head gasket on back to front and upside down no wonder no compression
