jonnyk5614
Got a 2500S with pre-ignition (it runs on for a while where you turn the engine off). I'm pretty sure I have a blow off the rear of the exhaust gasket. Also, the spark plugs at that end are sooty. Here is my theory: Rear gasket failure reduces back pressure causing buildup of carbon which is building up, getting hot and causing pre-ignition.Valid theory? piman
Hello Jonny, if the plugs are black, the carburettor mixture wants adjusting. I doubt that the exhaust blow will affcet the running in any way. Try reducing your idle speed to correct the running on?Alec

Glenn
Hi Jonny,What you describe sounds pretty much standard on a PI engine running on carbs. What is the engine number? Has it an MG prefix? So, could be a high compression ratio and "dieseling" taking place.
