I was sorting the workshop out trying to find some brake pipe spanner’s so after completely tidying the place I started on m’Dads tool box and found this implement! Can anyone please tell me it’s use.It has the word Draper Tool Number1 on it! The Padster is sniffing out any clues!

I have seen one, probably in my dads toolbox.

I have always assumed it was for undoing plugs with a square recess. But we all know what assumptions are like.

Seems like we need someone’s Dad to confirm! As for my spanner’s I didn’t find them as my son in law had borrowed them and omitted to tell me plus he had lost the 10/12 mm one I really wanted!

That is exactly what they were used for

So what we're all those plugs that needed to be undone around the house all those years ago?

More likely for plumbing to remove plugs from radiators etc.

We didn't have any radiators so my dad didn't use it for that purpose.

No, it really is a drain plug spanner/ wrench

I have had one for  many years, known to me  as  “ Drain plug spanner”

The fact that it has “Draper Tools “ written is also a bit of clue.

Yep I have one identical.  Some sumps, gearboxes, diffs etc have fill/drain plugs that have a square recess in them, needing a square peg key to undo etc.  The draper one fits a variety of sizes.  If you were very lucky and had a half inch or 3/8 one, a ratchet/extension would do the same job!
