Greeks Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 don't know what oil everyone else uses but I always used SAE 80-90 ... the guy who provided my reconditioned g/b and o/d reckons this is quite wrong and insists that I should only use SAE 75-80 :-/

thescrapman Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I have been told that original recommendation from Laycock de Normanville was a 30 weight oil, that now equates to a straight SAE30 oil.Was just talking to someone earlier who has run his spitfire box on it for 10+ years with no issues.I myself currently use EP80 GL4.Have been looking at Castrol SMX-S fully synthetic GL4 oil for the future. Not taken the plunge yet.Checking my 1960's Castrol Lubricant chart it says "Hypoy Light" which is now badged Castrol EP80.CheersColin
Mj17 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I get a ringing between 60/70 but have always assumed it was just a harmonic frequency for the handbrake cable - interested to know if I have something else to worry about!
