AndyR1
Hi, I am converting my herald 13/60 to rotoflex back suspension and have bought a complete rotoflex set up from a mk2 vitesse. However the rear spring is knackered so I was wondering if the good rear spring from my herald would fit the rotoflex system.Cheers Andy
Nick Jones
Don't see why not. Certainly it will physically fit. IIRC the Mk2 roto spring is the softest (lowest rate) with Vit Mk1 and Herald being the same. You can always fit a lowering block if it sits too high. What are you going to do about the handbrake cable run?Nick
rustbuckit2011
Would anyone happen to know what the part number of that mk2 roto spring is? I have a couple of springs but cant work out whats what.Cheers,,
thescrapman
Do you need the rear spring with the bent under bits as the usual shackle hits the rubber couplings?.
AndyR1
Thanks for the advice I haven't really thought about the handbrake cable yet but I have got the whole rear end of the vitesse chassis so I have got all the brackets if anything needs swapping over. I'm planning to do a cv conversion so the couplings fouling probably wont be a problem..Cheers Andy
Graham1
Hello AndyYou may need to consider moving the hand brake guides as well to avoid the doughnuts. I believe the Rota flex cable is longer than the non Rota flex cables.Graham
Dogsbody47uk
If you are doing a CV conversion it doesn't matter a damn. Just use the one that fits!
Nick Jones
Quoted from Graham1 Hello AndyYou may need to consider moving the hand brake guides as well to avoid the doughnuts. I believe the Rota flex cable is longer than the non Rota flex cables.Graham It's worse than this. The geometry of the swing axle handbrake cable guides doesn't work well with roto (doughnuts or CV) and you get a handbrake whose adjustment varies with suspension position.Colin's comment about the "bent under" bits shows me that I have a Mk1 spring fitted on my roto (CV) car. And yes, they did used to catch on the doughnuts when I still had them - not a happy noise......Nick
AndyR1
Looks like i will have to transfer the cable guides from the vitesse chassis to my herald one then. Cheers Andy
Nick Jones
Rotoflex handbrake cable guides are on the floor beneath the back seat, not on the chassis.Nick
gravelrash
When I converted my 13/60 to rotoflex I too used the herald spring. The clamps on the spring will indeed make contact with the rotoflex coupling, remove the bolt and bend them under. Lowering the rear will make the issue worse.the hand brake cable issue, i solved by using MG midget cables with a retaining plate mounted to the underside. The cables are of the bowden type and can run in an indirect route.
AndyR1
Ah right I didn't realise that I might have to go with the midget handbrake cables then. I've also got the complete rotoflex driveshaft's, hubs and lever arm shock absorbers to get rid off if anyone wants them.
