Raider
Just watched "Canonball 8000" on Men and Motors.Apparently a great event.Oh yeah? An overnight in Paris followed by motorways all the way to Monte Carlo. Some challenge.OK the cars are great - TVRs, Ferraris etc and they do stay in 5 star hotels but honestly, next to the 10CR it's nothing ::)
Malcolm
I was watching this too and thinking of the 10CR. I'd admit that I have always fancied doing the Canonball run one day but you do have a point. Seven hours on the Autoroute (Zzzzzzzzzzz) - I hope our route is much better. The only other thing that stood out in the programme was the heavy handed attitude of the French police. Impounding cars for hours, smashing one of the reporter's cameras and delaying the drivers yet again to "check their papers". Will this be a problem for our 10CR badged cars do you think ??)Malcolm. Raider
Will it be a problem for us?Wasn't last time but then again we weren't using Autoroutes and (with all due respect to our Triumphs) using such flamboyant, in your face cars :oYou can be assured that we are not using motorways in the main, and certainly not for 7 hours at a time! The 10CR is much more like the RBRR using non motorway roads with decent scenery. Also much more challenging - 70 to 80 MPH on a motorway in a TVR or Ferrari seems pretty pointless. Driving up and down mountains in TR7s etc is much more like it.
don cook1
Spot on Raider! I thought they were a bit pathetic; stopping off for a night in Paris, what's that all about? The 10CR and RBRR says a lot about our cars and, dare I say it, a lot about us! Tim Bancroft
Don and Raider,Exactly right, I get a bit annoyed about all these Hooray Henry's who go over the Channel and basically behave like yobs in their cars. I also doubt that many appreciate the cars that they are able to use/afford, they just look at them as status symbols- not as fine machines(Umm! a generalistic viewpoint this).Gotta say i was surprised about Damon Hill getting involved last year in one of those events- can't have done much for his public image.Give me normal working Joe's in affordable cars like Triumphs, MGs, TVRs etc.
Deleted User
Try this one for size.http://groups.msn.com/guildofmotorenduranceforspecialistcars/atlassahara2004.msnwI've followed these guys' antics for a few years now.Imagine taking a Caterham 7 on big fat tyres through an Alpine blizzard or heading all the way down to Sicily to the site of the Targa Floria and all of this in cars that they have mostly built themselves.Makes all the Hooray Henrys on these "Cannonball Runs" look like a bunch of limp-wristed mummy's boys. Deleted User
The 8000 bit probably related to the entry fee.An aquaintanceof mine did a similar thing in his mates big american truck cost them nearly six grand to enter and when i spoke to him after the event he wasn't exactly full of it ,so i don't think he got value for money. As for spending christmwas day under the car.......i'll think i'll wait till boxing day
