marktheherald
Hi all, Some years ago I picked up a second-hand steering wheel which I assumed was from a Vitesse. Stitched leather rim and chrome wire spokes. The stitching is disintegrating fast and I was about to visit a local sadler to get a quote for restitching, when I peeled back the leather and found another stitched leather rim underneath! Question: Were these steering wheels made with two layers, or am I just lucky to have bought one where someone fancied a slightly thicker grip? Cheers, Mark. steaming
The one I recently replaced on my Vitesse only had 1 layer of (very worn) stitched leather.
seth
It could be that the one you bought had a leather stitched cover added over the top of the original. Have you peeled the outer skin off all the way round? Maybe the second was added because the original had started coming apart?
marktheherald
No, haven't peeled the top layer off yet, as it still has about 3/4 still intact. I think I'll wait until it deteriorates a bit more! Mark.
