    Crank job

The speedo cable should go through the gap between the two bolts that come through the floor and hold up the gearbox cross member.
  2. Gertie's gearbox is now back in and the new AP clutch feels good, but the overdrive isn't working at present. I've probably put the wires back on wrong somewhere. 🤔 Will check it out during the week. 🙂
  3. Me too, I always get a bit anxious the night before big events and don't sleep very well. I don't know why? 🙁
  4. take Davemate with you as a co-driver. You certainly wont fall asleep while he's snoring! 😀
  5. That's handy. We'll get an hours kip before breakfast. 😀
  6. Yep, my gearbox is back in too now. Just a strut top to be replaced and a new fan belt to be fitted. I may even relocate the battery to the boot yet to create more space in the engine bay.
  7. You can have a plan to all drive different stints, but it all goes out of the window as you will all feel tired/refreshed at different times Regarding the satnav, we have one on at night, but we never set it to any check points. We use it more as as a safety feature. With a satnav you see the road layout ahead and watch out for any sharp bends that might catch you out. 🙂
  8. Lots now! Gearbox is now out because of an incompetent clutch. Driver side strut top appears to have collapsed, heater hose burst on the way home from the CT meet the other night and the tappets need doing. Gertie seems to have adopted the Pi's mindset of: If you fix one job on me, I will give you four more! 🙁

    Engine number

Funny you say that Nick because this has 'domed' pistons and after measuring the stroke, this is now a 2.0 as well! it's no good to me, so it will be going to the tip unless anyone wants it? I know it was a good engine as it came out of Iggy's Green Mk2 when he fitted a 2.5.

    Engine number

Can you tell the CC of an engine from the number alone? The engine Number is MM20620HE.

    Horn

Dave, FFS,  get that engine bay painted the same colour as the rest of the car!
  12. it's the wire that light that lights up the choke light on the cluster of four lights that stares at you from the dash board. Low fuel oil light ignition light Choke. Although not necessarily in that order
  13. Thanks Guys, Alec, what size is that fan please?
  14. Thanks guys for some interesting and informative answers and suggestions. I clearly have more thinking to do 🙂
  15. I'm looking to fit an electric fan on my Mk1 Pi. It needs to go nose cone side rather than crank pulley side. I will also be looking to remove the manual fan altogether, so the electric fan will be a replacement rather than an additional one. Has anybody done this? Any recommendations of particular makes?
  16. Gertie the Mk1 saloon.... I've now decided to fit gas shocks on the front as well as the rear and discovered a completely knackered strut top in doing so. Amazing what power steering masks isn't it? 🤔
  17. Gertie the Mk1 saloon has had a replacement diff, new rear gas shocks, new front wheel bearings, new front brake pads, with new rear shoes following soon. I've also finally got round to moving the electric fuel pump to a more favourable position in case it gives in. (we would have had to remove the front wheel to get at the bolts in it's original position) A recent 1600 mile trip to (Very Northern) Scotland revealed nothing to worry about, so we're looking good to go. 🙂
  18. I can agree with that. I have a louvred bonnet on Gertie and when sitting in the traffic in the summer, you can see the heat haze pouring out of the louvres.
  19. Thanks Jon & helpers for an enjoyable and very hospitable day out Enjoyed the rally, but one of the hardest bits for me was the lack of locations for the passage controls at the end of each section. When you are struggling to plot the route (As we were) at least knowing where the passage control is gives you an idea of where you need to be heading for. You could then also have the opportunity to work the route out backwards from there are well if you cant plot it forwards.   Maybe also try the clues out beforehand on a novice next time rather than an expert. An expert will always find the novice clues easy! A great day none the less and we were well surprised with our result considering we didn't cover section 4 at all due to already being late for the last control. Thanks again
  20. I'll be ok, it's Dave's patience levels that will end up throwing the map out of the window and going back to the pub! 😀
  21. I did this years ago, but never got round to putting it on you tube. Hope it doesn't get removed by the 'copywrite' police for use of the song. Enjoy..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d58PGvOqEyU&feature=youtu.be
  22. When we got home after after the last RBRR, Davemate and I had found that our 'first time RBRR' third man co-driver had put on facebook 'WTF AM I DOING???'  Round about the time we were at Gordano Services early hours Sunday morning! 😀
