  1. Howard, Not sure if that is correct. I have looked up the rule on the ÖAMTC, the austrian version of the RAC, and they do not say it is illegal to own. The whole discussion is that in Austria you are not allowed to take pictures of properties and persons without their consent, eg you are not allowed to install CCTV to monitor the street in front of the house etc, having a dashcam is as per their law a CCTV that is monitoring your property but without the consent of the civilians and thus not allowed. You are not allowed to film for Surveillance, but you are for souvenirs and as long as you are not distributing it to youtube this is not a problem. If the persons filmed are only accessory (eg passing in the back ground) then you do not need any permission, if they are recognisable then you need their permission Quote: With regard to the general authorization to carry out a video surveillance system, the basic authorization of a private client is based on his power of disposal over the specific area to be monitored in the individual case. Therefore, private persons may regularly only monitor those areas in which they have a right of disposal similar to that of a house; for example, your own house, your own garden or your own company premises. Such a power of disposal may arise both from a property right and also from a tenancy. By contrast, in "public places" (within the meaning of § 27 SPG), only the security authorities are authorized to conduct video surveillance and their admissibility is governed by the requirements of the SPG (see § 54 (6) and (7) SPG). Since the camera mounted in the vehicle of the applicant would regularly and deliberately and comprehensively capture public space during the journey, the applicant already lacks the necessary "legal competence" or "legal authority" within the meaning of § 7 (1) DSG 2000. End of quote a bit further: Quote The surveillance is to be marked (§ 13 Abs. 5 DSG). This does not apply to holiday photos and for strictly time-limited processing in individual cases for covert investigation. Unquote. Having spend a few hours this afternoon reading up on it I now believe that an Action Cam to film the gross Glockner is permitted, However IIRC the road there is private owned so they might have other rules.... Dirk
  2. Hi we have I guess all had Ellis mail re dashcam's. It came a bit as a shock to read that you are not allowed dashcam in Austria so I have been reading up a bit. I just bought an Actioncam to film our sheniganing.  It would seem that filming for touristy purposes is not prohibited (info is 4 years old however) but that they take an issue with privacy of filmed persons and property. so basically you would seem to be allowed to record that record breaking assault of the Silveretta but not film that B@@@y tourist that brakes before every corner and causing traffic jams. This would make sense as I can see a lot of bikers with action cams on their helmets Anyway, to each his own etc and dont blame me if you get fined 10000 euro's! Googling I came across this thread on BHP it has nothing to do with dashcams but they are filming a jag on the GrossGlockner pass. Just to make your mouth water! https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/street-experiences/174704-using-drone-shoot-car-commercial-high-alpine-road-austria.html Dirk
  3. thanks, understood correctly, read it badly :)😌
  4. What is the reasoning behind that? I would think that after ignition the piston moves down because of the expanding gasses, so if anything with the volume increasing it should suck in air.... Without plug the air would be pushed out on the compression stroke, before reaching TDC and ignition... or do I see this wrong? D
  5. I know, I'm getting into a habit of doing so.... Scotland definitely does not agree with my cars
  6. I'll be reading this with interest, my Mk2 (with Mk3 Engine) is currently on his way back from Glencoe courtesy of AA. for exactly the same, could not get her going after swapping the dizzy, and the AA send a recovery truck and not a mechanic or even a pair of jumpleads. In my case I suspect that the new Condensator was duff as she was sparking across the points. the resulting spark at the plugs was very weak...   D
  7. That'll spoil the glencoe drive then, although it might actually improve it for some, not the least the running out of talent Yamaha sportsbike rider that we saw being helilifted out last week after he lost control on the last straight stretch before the climb proper with no other car in sight, overtaking or coming to him. Judging by the state of his bike he must have been going silly speeds. As per the taxi driver I was traveling with not the first and certainly not the last... They can however  not compete with the A9 as being now scotlands most boring road. It is average speed cam and limited to 60 or 70, but the trucks can only do 50. So with not many overtaking places it only creates tailbacks of cars all going at 50 and getting nervous and anxious to overtake. If you want 50 why dont you make it 50 for all for once.... D
  8. I'm using OsmAnd + on a tablet.  it is free if you want to limit to 7 maps downloads or a few pounds for the unilmited version. It works very well. You can make your routes on Routeyou.com and then export them to their version of GPX.  Some of the menu items are a bit confusing but there is a whole active help and developer forum.  D
  9. Accusparks work fine as long as your car is negative earth. they have a positive earth version but as it relies on shielding the components from normal earth and running a wire instead it can be a bit more "unstable".  I am about to install one on the spit for the 10CR, I have one on the SX and once converted to negative earth and buying the correct set it has been working fine. The old positive earth system was as said a bit challenging to keep running.    Dirk
  10. charleville : Ibis Budernz: Einhorn, can imagine they dont know what is happening to them... Lienz: Moos-Alm, however with the confirmation mail came a how to reach the property and it seems that it is a good 2 km off the main road, up a mountain track... Not sure if that's a good idea with the spit. Augsburg: Hotel Gasthaus Wangerhof, somehow to the side and near the university. I have tried to put myself into Ellis shoes and see where we could manage a parking space big enough for a restart. Charleville: near to the supermarkets, Budernz Not much choice really all was already booked. Lienz: here I went wrong, thought of the ski arena would be a good possibility, but it would seem that the hotel is near the top station of the lift, not the base.... Augsburg: University... The bets are one to see where we will restart. D
  11. Forget what I said about Germany, that's wrong, more study needed.... D
  12. Be careful in Antwerp, the rule is that your car needs to be older than 40 years (date of first registration) before you can enter, however people have been fined and our national federation advises everybody to first pay and then dispute! You also need to buy a "pass" to be allowed in the zone, which for +40 is 20 euro's for a week ( and you can not buy a daypass for these) For Brussels a car registered as Historical vehicle, in Belgium these are registered with a "O" registration and more than 30 years old are allowed in, No mention of foreign registered cars. As the scanning is done with APR camera's the registration is compared automatically with the database, in case of foreign cars this needs to be done manually, so chances are that i) they just consider it too much hassle and forget about it or ii) they consider it too much hassle to check and just fine you, up to you to prove that you were allowed in.... You still can take the ring road in Brussels and Antwerp as they fall outside the LEZ. For Germany I was under the impression that cars older than '96 are allowed in without a sticker....  Dirk
  13. IIRC the positive earth versions are a bit of a workaround, the components inside use negative earth and have to be shielded. Maybe that is where the issue lies. Changing to negative earth not an option?
  14. I think a supercharger and longer gearing would solve all your problems. Quit right Clive, later this week we'll getting the engine out to see what failed, that will be the moment to investigate if a overdrive box would fit. There are also 3 different combinations of C&P used so will have to check what we have and what is possible. Not cheap though, :( anyone an original shamrock for sale?
  15. Nick, Yup that was us, the engine had absolutely no power in low rev's meaning that we had to hooligan our way up the mountain passes. We have since rebuild the carbs and the problem seem to have vanished, only to be replaced with one of the carbs that stucks open when coming off throttle, so that needs to be investigated. As to the Gloria, it might be tempting but for now the car sits sulking in a corner, I have not yet investigated what the cause of the overheating was. That's on the board for this week. Gearing however would make her suitable for the passes, but not so for the motorway stretches. So there you are Catch 22.
  16. Does the person have to be a member? I’ve got a mate who is really into Triumphs who would love to go No he does not, only one has to be CT member... @ Nuala, still plenty of time to get Billy Nomate teamed up. I'm sure there will be other candidates piping up. It is after all a fantastic event, and, sorry Tim, I think it is even better than the RBRR, more satisfying because more scenery, social involvement... and less stressful. But then that could be because of my penchant to do things the challenging way.   D Just realized Nuala that I did not thank you properly for offering to store the Gloria at your premises after we broke down on the RBRR. Maybe Phil spoke before his turn but I really appreciated the suggestion and offer. Remind me to pay you a drink for that if we bump into each other during the 10CR D

  18. I thought Shaun would be using a Dolomite for the 2019 10CR ... Guess he ran against an higher authority now, being married shifts the priorities (quiet) a bit LOL I have Shangaied him to do it once more with the spit. For the next RBRR run however I have told him that it will be either with the Dolly, or he will have to join me in the Gloria. Seen that he is not that "slightly mad" as I am he'll be pressing on for then, I hope :) (i will still go with the GLoria though, but have not told him yet, Good Back up car that is, plenty of spare part capacity :) )
  19. not mine and I have no idea or can remember where I got it from initially, but this is the one I used as basis Dirk
  20. See that I'm not the only one who loves a good deadline and the sound they make when whooshing past
