  2. I got NOS steel wheels for my Herald, ..........but I did obtain them in 1982..... ;) ;) ;) M.
  3. That's weird, the Dolomite never had static belts. M.
  4. That is the A post.  May find it easier and cheaper to get a replacement bulkhead. M.
  5. Nope, just call him, he is very reasonable. M.
  6. Chic Doig makes these. Mark
  7. Mazfg, what is the actual oil consumption?  Fill it to full, drive it for 500 miles and measure what you're putting in.  As Andy Mace says, they're not horribly out of range.  If the oil consumption is not out of the manufacturers figures, I'd leave all well alone. M.
  8. It really does sound like worn valve guides to me.  If you keep your eye on the oil level I doubt that there will be any long-term damage. M.
  9. Flush it through and fill with new antifreeze.  The black sludge might be residue from previously installed radiator stop-leak remedies........... Mark
  10. Before you remove the head, compression test the engine dry and wet to determine worn rings.  Whereas John says blue smoke is usually oil burning, it isn't always a symptom of knackered bores/rings.  Does the car use a lot of oil? or is it smoking on overun (usually a sign of worn valve guides)? M.
  11. Any reverse lamp'll physically fit.  If you want to be posh you might fit the gearbox top cover from a MKlll Spitfire that already has the automatic reverse light switch fitted...... That way, the reverse lights'll come on when you engage reverse!   ;) M.
  12. Remove the grommet on the filler neck, lift and turn anti-clockwise pulling the rear end of the tank forwards as you turn and it'll come out, only just though!  There is a knack. Mark
  13. Hmmm.  I used to "borrow" my Herald 1200 when it was owned by my Mother.  When my parents went on holiday and I was left in the charge of my sister who was 5 years older and "busy" with her boyfriend, I, aged 14 used to take my mates down the pub in the Herald, get hammered and drive home. Mind you, it was less illegal then it is now!   ;D Happy Heralding! Mark
  14. E is for Exchange.  So on a Vitesse HB000001  is HB=Vitesse 1600/early 2 litre, then the engine number in this case 1 then the suffix which might be HC standing for High Compression or LC for Low Compression then E if it is a factory exchange unit. Mark
  15. I'd go for the Vitesse wing as modifying the swage at the headlight area will be tricky.  Not sure on the seam bit.  Go for a complete floor pressing and trim off the bits that you don't need as the TDF panels are correct and made from the original pressings.  I hope that this helps. Mark
