    Timing help

right engine out, gear box still in car, what a shite job. just because i didn't want to to take the tunnel out!  with the engine striped  the cam is totally knackered, Journals 1&2 show signs of scoring, 3&4, totally buggered. I shall have to get a new cam and a set of cam bearings,  the big ends look okay no damage but I shall fit new one's anyway, The mains are still in I haven't removed them yet,  I also noticed the lack of oil in with the timing chain which was almost dry, The oil is being filtered so i can see what debris is in it,  I haven't checked the oil pump yet but I shall replace it anyway, any body know where I can buy a quality pump ? I think I read on our old site that some people enlarge the oil ways to the cam, but I have no way of checking that now, Sorry I can't post photo's on this new site,  Also the thrust washer on the crank shaft is showing a lot of wear, I know when I rebuilt the engine the end play was very tight 4 - 5 thou, but thats what the book says to set it too, now its as slack as a yak !   so either the pump is fu=ked or ive suffered with blocked oil ways, right the good news piston and bores look great, so new rings and that will do, after all the engine has only done 80 ish miles  So where to buy a cam and bearings from ?? I don't want a Kent one, because a friends went pear shape after a few miles the lobes blue out ( is that the right blue)? the car is a MK3 GT6 with a 2.5 lump advice please, ta guys

    Timing help

Thanks Nick, when I rebuilt the engine I purchased a new oil pump, from Rimmer's, The engine has only done 80 ish miles, when I took the rocker cover off there was oil up there, I have started to remove the engine hopefully i'll have it out by the week-end, I was just going to remove the cam but thinking about it the engine has to come out any way, here's my two hot spots http://s32.photobucket.com/user/Guppy748/library/?view=recent&page=1 I have noticed the paint has started to lift to the right of the dizzy as well, I did try to add this link into the source/link box but no photo appeared, Ive just looked at sideways there's a lot of names i recognise from this site

Will do Don, we might have to wait a bit though,  I am just pulling the cam out I think I must have a blocked oil way for the paint to blister on the engine block, where the first and second cam journals are

    Timing help

A swift update, just done a 30 mile run with no pinking, a little bit of pre ignition when I turn the key off, the oil pressure runs at 20/25psi at a constant 2000rpm, and when I turned the engine off the temp gauge went off the clock, if I leave the rad fan on it cools down fine, when driving 60 mph and around 2k rpm the engine temp is just below the "N", I was surprised to see a wispy jet of smoke coming from the oil cap breather hole, I have fitted an oil catch tank, this was dry, The engine has only done about 80 miles since the rebuild, oh well back into the garage, Who was driving the Black GT6 through Four Marks this morning, I was in the Mimosa one, are you local ?

Yes very true, at least I can measure the movement coming up and when the DTI stops mark the pulley, then do the same going down,  posting photo's I haven't mastered it yet, sometime's copy and paste works this is the initial setting up, the photo's are always there in the preview but when posted they are missing ?
  24. Has any body fitted a couple of washers in with the oil pressure spring, or Rimmer's list two  Standard Spring - Oil Pressure Relief Valve 131535 Uprated Spring - Oil Pressure Relief Valve 131535UR both are less than a fiver
  25. Hi so where would we take our faulty dampers to get them repaired and at what cost . just looking at Rimmer's for my GT6 its £120 inc, I can't see one listed for a TR6, Has any body had one come apart ?
