  1. my experience of the high torque starter is that it seems draw a lot less current than the orginal starter, I went through a few of the original starters and batteries before I bit the bullet and bought one, I never had a problem after that, and it deffinitely improved the starting performance. I would argue its essential on a six cylinder engine, (mine is also high compression) My PI has the original style starter motor which is much larger than the GT6 spitire type, to date this has never let me down. Its a fairly simple job to remove the starter motor, and inspect it, you may well find the new starter has failed, this is common with new parts.
  2. Well i was a little bored of turkey over Xmas and decided to remove the thick floor paint, needless to say the floor pans where a bit corroded in parts, but astonishingly sound in other areas. As the sills where a right old mess, I got busy with the angle grinder and started to have a closer look.... I have never darred to cut the sills off a Triumph before, but so far so good, having done much pondering I have decided to just cut the whole floor pan and sill assembly out of the nearside (cant see the o/s under stuff at present) and replace with new, I think it will probably be for the best in the long run, and will make the repairs to the front footwell panels much easier. Luckilly Aldi had a good deal on cutting discs over xmas..... In the meantime i have been practicing my welding skills with You tube tutorials and scrap metal, where would we be without the internet......

  4. wish we could find an easy replacement for the seat diaphrams.
  5. sounds very interesting......
  6. The sills are completely shot, have got a new set from tr bits, they seems ok will need fettling a bit, the floor seems solid but there is some nasty thick paint covering them, so at the very least they need to be stripped back and inspected, was going to get the tub shot blasted (not the outer panels, which I have done at home with my light duty shot blaster) this will hopefully stop any rot in its tracks, I have not pulled the tub of the chassis yet, but it does seem very solid, does anybody have any details of the mods that should be done to the diff mounts, I have heard that they need to re-enforced? Thanks

  8. who saw the tr6 on wheeler dealers last night? the poor guy who sold it was robbed. 6k for a rust free tr6, I would have sold the dog and my pi for that, the rest of the repairs where a walk in the park.

  10. Initial mpg figures appear to be 91 gallons used over 2150 miles, this is had to calculate as some receipts do not have the fuel price or liters on so used 1.40 as an average price. circa 24mpg, not bad considering it s 2.5 pi saloon, and i drove it hard due to a flat spot at 1500 rpm. only used half a pint of oil! well chuffed with that.
  11. is that the point when I took the right road and you lot went the wrong way back into wales by any chance?
  12. following the courier van through the locks and glens of Scotland at a 'sensible pace' that was one of the best bits of driving I have ever witnessed. I was pleased that the PI kept up most of the time despite the misfire. Who needs pro plus when you have adrenaline, blind corners and passing points!
  13. I have a selection of exhaust manifolds and pipes, where about down south are you ?
  14. MY 2.5 PI (BBC648K) ran like a dream on its run from Bristol to Gaydon, i'm a bit concerned at how low the volt gauge reads with everything on though, especially as I have got new alternator on it? The fuel economy seemed better than I thought too did 180 miles on 2/3 of a tank,
  15. cleaned the inside windows, can now see out, where does all the dirt come from on the inside? fitted new engine mounts, which has cured many strange rattles and vibrations, time for a blast up to the drivers meeting meeting, what could possibly go wrong?
  16. cured the misfire at last... fixed the leaking oil seal on the dizzy pedestal, need to change the engine mounts looks like one has sheared!, varnish the door caps, and secure the battery, everything else should be systems go!
  17. I have just checked everything tonight and realized that I has set the metering unit alignment using the n05 injector instead of the number 6 injector, this has changed the running and made it much smoother, also fixed the leaking pedestal seal.
  18. maybe I was a bit harsh but the colour.... what ever possessed them to use it in the factory...
  19. I bought one of the synchrometers recently and have nothing but praise for it, if you have a PI it is a must own piece of equipment, I am considering buying 2 more so can get all three banks close to perfection
  20. Is anybody an expert at adjusting the metering units on the PI, I would like to lean mine off a bit for the RBRR, to improve fuel consumption, my pi is getting between 20 to 24 mpg at present. I am led to believe that 25 to 30 mpg can be achieved with a bit of fettling? It would be worth doing over 2300 miles, certainly worth a few beer tokens for anyone wishing to help at the drivers meeting?
  21. very harsh! Surely the director of Club Triumph could have made a plea on this chaps behalf to footman Jones, it is for charity after all...
  22. Is it legal t o fit spot lights on a PI, after all the wiring loom has a wire for that very purpose by the radiator, and I have a nice set of spots in the loft that would be a good upgrade for the RBRR, once fitted via a relay circuit that is....
