neilnaz
Hi Herald Newbie I don't think you have asked a daft question but I don't know whether you require type 12 or type 14. Canleys list both on their website here:http://www.canleyclassics.com/catalog.asp?category=200208031924583385758377and I would imagine that you should have the type listed relative to the build of your Herald but that may depend on whether the calipers have been changed by a previous owner. There must be a way of identifying the caliper type that you have.If the piston is badly pitted then a seal kit will probably be of no use to you as the new seal will not necessarily seal to a badly pitted cylinder.Someone must know whether cylinders can be cleaned or honed and new seals used.I have changed both my calipers and replaced hoses etc as I was unsure of their history and decided not to risk it with such a safety critcal area. Bill from Rarebits may be your best bet for advice in this area.He may also sell seal kits per caliper but I do not know that for sure. His website is here:http://www.rarebits4classics.co.uk/Best of luck in your fixing.Regards, Neil
neilnaz
I've just looked at Bill's site and he does list seal and cylinder kits so sounds like Rarebits is definitely worth a try. Give him a bell and I am sure he will be in a position to advise.Cheers, Neil
Matt Mason
Just looked at the recomended sites, but they dont show any diagrams to identify which type i might have. Thanks Matt
Clive
type 12 calipers are held together (the 2 halves) by 2 bolts, and the type 14 by 4 bolts. They all use 2 bolts to fix to the uprights. Hope thats clear then!cheersClive
DaveKent
and if they're anything like the type 16 on the vitesse, then the type number is cast into the caliper anyway!!
