nmarston
I have a 1970 TR6 Pi with 4.5J x15 standard wire wheels. it has an old set of Nokia 175/70 R15 tyes on which need replacing. This size seems almost unobtainable. I've also been told "decent" modern tyres would improve the general ride/handling? Any suggestions on size, make and where to get them? Thanks
andy thompson
185/65x15 seem very popular - bit wide on a 4.5" rim though - 165x15 are unobtainale or just too expensive? michelin or avon do classic 15 tyres - 185/70 turbospeeds in avon?
piman
Hello 07021,here's a supplier of that size, rather eye watering price though.http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk//page/search?searchMethod=searchterm&searchScope=site&searchUrl=null&sortBy=&category=&searchTerm=1219&x=37&y=15They do have a good selection of 165 section tyres which would suit the rim width better.Alec
thescrapman
Standard for on a 5.5J rim is a 195/55-15.Bit wide for you.Be very careful as the narrow sizes are regularly van tyres.DON'T! OK.CheersColin
andy thompson
http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk//page/5739Michelin XAS - 165 x 15 look skinny - original equipment for a UK PI - very unfashionable but correct for the design - reckon they would be fantastic on a TR6 with all that camber change, especially at the back - they are made with a more modern compound so are sticky too - OK so they cost a few tanks of fuel more - I'd go for theseI have had 225/50 x 15 Race rubber on my PI and had to fit 195/60 x 15 road tyres because of a terminal flat spot - the difference in handling was amazing - lower overall grip but so much fun driving on the "limit" of grip - very very progressive
James
I'm all for narrower tyres - bette in wet conditions, more progressive and far more fun.

piman
Hello Colin, from the Longstone Tyre site, the advised rim width for the original query size of 175 section is 5" to 5.5". I would say that 185 on 4.5" rim is over tyred.Alec
