geckoman Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 HiI am planning to buy some standard springs and dampers for my 13/60 convertible are there any things i should bear in mind. (Apart from use a good spring compressor). As a 1st time DIY mechanic i like to know that im getting things right especially when safety is concerned. Also when i removed the steering there was a plate (on top of chassis) underneath the lefthand rack clamp. Should it be there? Its not illustrated in any diagrams (its not the plate that is located underneath the chassis). The clamp had stripped threads so i presume it was to lift the clamp in order to make use of the good threads.
Herald Freak Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Stand side on to the spring so if a compresser lets go nothing gets shot at you, once saw a compresser let go on a fiesta spring it shot about 500ft out the door and would have done damage to anything in its path
rotten herald Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 i've always struggled to get the two hook compressors to work on herald front susp, so had to resort to using the single hooked variety, perfectly safe if your careful, but recomend you keep kids, or furry animals way, just in case.
martin Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 i have never had use for a spring compressor on heralds or vitesses.i just use a trolley jack under the wishbone split the top ball joint. then undo the shock top nut then let down the trolley jack, no problem
James Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 The TSSC do an _excellent_ spring compressor for our cars - can't recommend it enough... works really well - its totally safe - and wont scratch your springs or anything like that...James
