JensH
Hi all;I have been offered a new pair of front wings for my spitfire mk 3. The seller told me, they are original "NOS" Stanpart wings, but there are no labels left on them. They are coloured in some red primer, and shows signs of long time storage. Is it possible to distinguish between new "heritage" panels and original Stanpart and does the new heritage panels available require a lot of work before welding in?Anyone who can help? Thanks JensCopenhagen, DenmarkSpitfire mk
chrisspe
i dont know about front wings, but my heritage rear wings fit like gloves, no modification necissary at all (apart from rebuilding the rusted inner wing)! Thats as opposed to the steelcraft sills ive got wich will need a hammer to fit.
Richard B
Faded old red primer sounds about right. I think they went to black primer in the 70's.
heraldcoupe
Original Stanpart red transit primer has a sheen to it. More recently manufactured wings (last 15+ years) are also red, but the primer is very matt - it is quite porous and won't shed water like the original. The Stanpart primer is tough as nails whereas the modern stuff will scratch fairly easily.Cheers,Bill.
JensH
Thanks for the replies. Will go and have a closer look at them. Anyone knows as if the recent manufactured wings has been made of original tooling – or need a lot of work to line up?Best regardsJens
