John, I meant the Triumph Dolomite Club forum. I'm not bothered about the name on the charger as long as it does the job.

Sam, that's why I asked the question on here. As a moderator I didn't want to "fan the flames" over there. I've had to PM my fellow mod about the "fake news". I'm convinced that my smart charger will be fine. The only problem I've read about is the button failing in a relatively short space of time.

to discharge your battery connect a light bulb to it, or if its still in the car just turn your lights on (no engine running) and check the volts with your multi meter and  stop the discharge at 12.2v ,,

that 50% discharged, it is now ready for a full charge,

Then when your charger indicates its fully charged , leave it connected to the battery, and just unplug it for 30 secs then plug it back in this will give you a top up charge that cleans the plates inside the battery, This only extends the charge time by 2-3 hrs 

so I'm led to believe.
