Mr Elsie Posted July 1, 2012 Share Posted July 1, 2012 Hi, I've just sourced a replacement water pump housing and water pump including the appropriate gaskets. The gaskets appear very thin and papery and wanted to check if this was normal? The ones that came off appeared to be much thicker.Would I also need to use any gasket glue on these areas? I use grease on gasket surfaces.I once worked for a company who had maintainance contracts with large oil distributors for repairs on fuel tankers. Any fuel transfer pump , metering unit, filter housing or manifold I built using grease never leaked. In fact when one needed doing it was me got put on it. Fuel is great for creating leaks.One day I was round with our parts suppliers who also did a lot of repair work. Nick Jones Posted July 1, 2012 Share Posted July 1, 2012 I use cereal packets for making those gaskets..... Greasing gasket surfaces may help them shift and wriggle into the gaps as compressed......
