Wendy Dawes Posted January 28 Posted January 28 (edited) Took Mabel out for a pre Stoneleigh run ran beautifully for a 7 mile drive then blew a big end half a mile from home, limped her back to her garage and shut her away for the forseeable, I did say in the area news in club torque that she would throw up an issue before Stoneleigh, she was meant to be on the stand. I hate that car !! Edited January 28 by Wendy Dawes Quote
Rubce Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Oh bugger, what a shame Wendy😞 Do you have a spare usable engine you could fit? Quote
Wendy Dawes Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Thanks Bruce x I have a 1500 spitfire engine but I think I’ll get her own engine reconditioned in the next few weeks, I bought an overdrive gearbox and twin hs2 carbs which I have had rebuilt at cost so I’ll get her engine done and put the whole lot on in one go Quote
Amy Wade Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Get a price from your local reconditioner for the machining required & we can talk in a couple of weeks at Stoneleigh. P.S. I'll be bringing baked goods 😊 Quote
Wendy Dawes Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Thank you Amy, it won’t stop me from enjoying the planned events, old cars, tired engines etc xx see you at Stoneleigh with biscuits 😊 Quote

Wendy Dawes Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 (edited) She’s for sale at £2000 if anyone wants to buy her and either replace or recondition her engine I’m not throwing any more money at her I’ve spent a fortune and the money pit is too deep 😊 I’ll post a for sale on the forum later Edited January 29 by Wendy Dawes Quote

Rubce Posted January 29 Posted January 29 (edited) Hi Wendy Seems a bit drastic to sell the car when you have a replacement engine available. "Better the devil you know" Regards Bruce Edited January 29 by Rubce 1 1 Quote
Amy Wade Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I'll second that, there's been so much work done so far there's very little left to go wrong. 1 1 Quote
Wendy Dawes Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 I’m in talks with Darren about it, but I do know the car and I do know that there’ll be yet another issue, probably the diff , if I change the engine and gearbox, there’s only the diff left to blow lol 1 Quote
Amy Wade Posted January 30 Posted January 30 You could start again... 1965 Triumph Herald 12/50 https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1675359 Quote
John Bell1 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Sorry to read you've had to call it a day with Mabel. They are bottomless spending pits, that's one of the characteristics of this hobby! Hopefully Mabel has found someone with some spare cash to look after her and you can get lots of "smiles per miles" with Darren in other Triumphs 1 Quote
Wendy Dawes Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 She has been bought by a club member who will sort her out. Happy that someone will take her on further than I was prepared to. she wil still he seen out and about in the future 2 Quote

Loved the car but it was a money pit. Danny 1 Quote
