Encom
Can any one help? I am just about to finish my R160 diff conversion in my Mk1 68 Vitesse Saloon and dropped out the drive shaft to get it shortened. When I loosened off the flange at the gearbox, oil poured out - I thought no biggie just replace the seal in the tail housing.Took the output flange off the gearbox to remove the seal and the casing has been eaten away a couple of 2mm. I reattached the nut and checked for end float, and there is about 1mm if that. Now the questions are; is it something to worry about? or just shim the flange out and it will be okay? or am I facing down the barrel of a gearbox rebuild?Cheers. Encom
Non-overdrive. But I am afraid its a case of RTFM :(No thrust washer installed!!! Item 44 on page 2.202 of the factory manual, doh!!!It is comforting that the last person to 'touch' the car took such care - oh boy what else will I find? Rolling Resto ummm been off the road for 6 months :( more rolling list of things to do.Oh well all part of the 'fun' :)
Pete Lewis
not the first time thats been ommitted on a rebuild ,,afraid gearboxes are getting problematic ,,old age creeping in rapidly and any core is just more worse for wear .Pete
