Batman
Anyone know where to get an LSD for a 1500 spitfire? Only suppliers I can see are Quaife (then I have to build it myself) or Moss (out of stock)
Clive
I think they are all built to order as too expensive to have sitting on the shelf. Mike Papworth may be able to help, or Jigsaw.
JohnD
Quaife make "Automatic Torque Biasing" not Limited Slip Differentials. There is a significant difference betwen the two, in the design and, IMHO, the effect. I use a Quaife ATB, that used to live in my Silverback. That broke the key that held the driveshaft to the hub, at Le Man. I tried to drive it home, as initally the ATB, 'thinking' that wheel had no adhesion, put all the power down the other shaft, and at first, I could tell no difference. But drive slowly deteriorated and thirty miles from Calais, it could go no further. The Spitfire Aces took me home (thanks guys!) and car was returned to me via Continental Rescue some weeks later. Thinking that the ATB would be worn out, I sent it to Quaife to be repaired. They returned it, with the words "No measurable wear - no repair required" and a tiny, inspection-only bill! IMHO, a conventional plate-LSD would have been worn out by that insult. Quaifes are tough, and effective! JOhn
Tim Bancroft
https://gripperlsd.com/product/triumph-spitfire/ I think Chris Hughes who is a CT member and keen Triumphist works for them. Worth a call.
Beans
Quoted from JohnD- "Quaifes are tough, and effective!" I fitted a Quaife ATB diff to the back axle of my (tuned) Sprint powered TR7 in 1999, and I can only agree with John's opinion!
