jonnyk5614
"1968The Daily Express newspaper stages the first London to Sydney Marathon. One of the toughest rallyies of the period, it covered 10,000 miles through Europe, Asia and Australia, crossing 12 countries in over 250 hours of non-stop driving time, a unique test of both men and machines. 98 cars set out from the Crystal Palace, London on 24 November, but eight days later in Bombay having covered 6,800 miles, there were only 72 left. A Hillman Hunter driven by Andrew Cowan was declared the winner and awarded the prize after a UK works Citroën DS21 collided with a Mini driven by local youngsters less than 100 miles from the finish. The Citroën was wrecked and so were the high expectations of the team. "Proabably best to forget I ever mentioned it lol! Best not to temp anyone. Also, think of the paperwork involved! James
As a triumph enthusiast you should really know about the 1970 world cup rally - now that was awesome
Jason
The World Cup Rally was created because the London to Sydney was considered too easy!I'm working on the European route recreation - it's not as easy as it sounds considering there wasn't actually an official route like says a RBRR or 10CR - there were control stops and "Primes" (special stages - some hundreds of miles long) but the bits in between were "free" and could be navigated how so ever the crews wanted. sparky_spit
... and would the European section cover 10 countries by any chance, and be about 2500 miles long? And could you document all this by Sept 2013? :)
Jason
...errr. maybe(whistle)I'm not so sure it lends itself to a 10CR format really but it's a consideration.
Raider
I like the sound of a "free" route to be decided by the crew - a bit like a massive HCR :)
