32valves
I've got a Spitfire 1500 non O/D prop as a replecement for the one on our MkIV (thanks Clive). Which way round does it fit, UJ at the front or rear ? (the other end is a pop joint)
Fizzy
i always go UJ at the front, the other end compensates for suspension movement
Clive
I think the CV is fitted at the front. Thats how it came out anyway!
thebrookster
Mine was fitted with the U/J at the rear, the front had a sliding joint. No idea if this is the correct way or not, more a case of 'if that was how it came out, so it will go back in'. Oh, mine is a MkIV, could not tell you what shaft I have though!! I can tell you it has the later 1500 Single Rail gearbox fitted though :)Cheers,Phil
32valves
Two votes to one for the UJ at the rear then. Back under the car in the morning ;D

32valves
Well, I fitted the prop this morning with the UJ at the back. Thanks for the helpful replies, the other two of you can go and sit on the naughty step ;D
cook1e
According to the official Standard Triumph workshop manual, the GT6 and Vitesse prop has the sliding joint and strap joint at the rear end of the prop. Spitfire may be different though and at the end of the day I doubt it makes that much difference.

Pete TR7
UJ definatley at the back and sliding joint at the front, this helps with gearbox removal.
lordleonusa
Yes, the workshop manual does have the slider at the back, BUT if you get less vibration with it at the front, then do that.It works either way round.L
