molten
Hi FellasSeem to have some play in the steering column (ie steering wheel moves several degrees before affecting steering).Anyone know what to do to remove this or is rack the likely culprit??Thanksscott
Gt6s
Rack or steering coupling.
CHRIS211083
I would ask is the slack the same in both directions??? If so check the universal joint half way down the steering shaft in the engine bay. Usually the rubbers have gone. If it's different both sides then your steering rack needs shimming on one side.Chris.
GT6 M
Hi Scott, it could just be the clamp underneath, by,t steering lock, aint tight enough.does it clonk a wee bit, clonk is when it comes to end of slack ness.it means getting into a Yoga position , to see it,but can put hand under neath and give it a grope, nowt like a good grope int dark :) :)ye should be able to feel the flat bit turning ,whilst other bits stops still.centralise, then tighten either the 2 bolts, of the central allen bolt and nut to stop play. But could also be worn oot rubbers in lower joint.Lower joint bolt some times comes loose, but this mainly shows up as up,n doon movement.could also be totally wacked track rod endsthee,s easy to see, wheels stop still, but steering wheel moves.look , or feel for slackness int rod ends.tip, any play should give a clonk oot.so listen for clonk, and problemo is wea clonks at., simples.M
DaveKent
or sloppy rack mounts after years of oil soaking
molten
No up and down movement. Just play on side-to-side when turning steering wheel.[sub][/sub]Looking at other posts abo e it would seem that the UJ could be the culprit. May be right as this was not replaced on rebuid!
