Rabs
Hi, can anyone tell me the best way to remove steering column of 1979 1500 spitfire? It looks to have a part for what I would think t be steering lock and you cannot undue as no bolts.
BrendanD
Leave the lock in place (it has shear bolts). To remove the column you need to undo-1. the two long bolts holding the column to the underside of the dash.2. the clamp bolt holding the outer to inner column (down by the pedals) - leave the centre big pinch bolt alone and just undo the side ones. It should slide off, but that can be seized.3. The lower outer column bolts to the bulkhead4. unclip the electrics plug for the ignitionhttp://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID005792http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID005790
Rubce
Plus you will need to undo the pinch bolt where the column enters the steering rack universal joint.RegardsBruce
