redhouse53
Is there a trick to fitting the rear section of the handbrake cable, in particular getting the threaded section through the curved guides? thanks
iggy
what you call the curved guide under the rear propshaft flange is the compensator you can take it off buy removing the split pin and then remove the pin its self, then put the cable into it 🙂
JohnD
No I think he means the cable guides, either side that direct the cables towards the wheels.Thread the cable into the forward end of the guide, turn it INWARDS, so you have a large a coil as you wish, and then out of the guide towards the wheel. As it comes out of the guide, untwist it.See diagram.Grease, liberally!John
RobPearce
As John says. I'd only add that it's MUCH easier without the diff and halfshafts in place. In fact, I had to remove one half shaft at a minimum to make it possible.
redhouse53
That's great thanks, so i might be unbolting my half shafts again
Nick Jones
I recently managed to fit the handbrake cable to the chassis guides, realise I'd been daft, remove it again and refit to the alternative (on our special car!) rotoflex handbrake guides fitted to the body. All this with the diff and driveshafts fitted. The original fitting to the swing axle guides was relatively easy, the rest caused some cussing and skin loss but was possible.Nick
RobPearce
Yes, I'm sure in the past I have managed to change the cable without removing the halfshaft but on Toby there was not way it was going to work. Possibly the brand-new cable (from a reputable supplier) has longer threaded ends than the original.
redhouse53
thanks for the advice, got the job done today and opted to unbolt the halfshafts and push them upwards out of the way. That made the job quite straightforward
