Starter motor

Hi have fitted reconditioned starter and new 5 pin starter relay to my tr7. Once connected back up, the ignition light was on w/o the key in the ignition. Don't want to start it as its live for some reason?

Any ideas?

Just to rule some things out;
You sure the relay is the correct one? If in doubt fit the old one and see what happens.
Check connections at the back of the starter. Is everything fitted correctly and are there no short circuits?

Thanks beans. Just looking at your picture attached, I may not have connected up correctly? Are both the positive and negative connected to one terminal in this picture?

Relay is same type (but modern square equivalent) from local motor spares. Old one was a blue Lucas cylindrical type relay that looks many years old.

Brown and red are both live. Earth is through the housing directly to the engine.
But also check the relay carefully, I did have an incorrect (aftermarket) one in the past.

I Bean's picture I once connected the brown wire to the top terminal after removing and then refitting the starter motor.......How was I to know (dizzy)
