Corolla starters can be too big for the standard conversion kit (mine was) - although I believe it is possible to get the larger parts machined - hopefully Dave could confirm.

Also, note that starters from the likes of Suburu and Rover may look similar but will turn the wrong way and may have the wrong number of teeth.

As stated above, you don't actually need to do any machining with the Isuzu Trooper motor and neither does it require a conversion kit - so if you can find one in a scrappy it's probably the best bet for 4 cyl cars.

Oh ... and nearly forgot (4th time lucky) early Toyota Celica are OK too.

So what starter is needed if you want if for a MK2 triumph 2000 ?

Triumph 2000 / 2.5 same as for a Spitfire / Vitesse / GT6

Agree with previous poster. Never (at least 5 2500's) had starter or battery problems. Leave well alone (bunny)

I would not bother on a 4 pot, unless there are extenuating circumstances. But on a 6 pot or 8 pot, definitely makes starting easier.

and on a 6 pot there is more space for an extractor manifold.

I have one (trooper type) on my 1500 Herald so is it a straight swap onto a 2000 engine?

This is exactly why I've just fitted a Wosp starter to my PI... That and the fact that I'm fed up with the Lucas stuff - one even failed on me half way through a MoT test 😀
