I have borrowed a sat nav and that is what I shall be doing as I know nothing about them and there is no instruction book with it. Also they will try to takle you the "best" route, which may involve motorways many miles from where you want to be. Cheers Colin
  2. Decided to take the car to work today as a final test (well a test of the loaned PRV) and due to a lorry load of onions not being on the lorry anymore, the Orwell Bridge was shut, so I got stuck in the hour long queue through the docks in ipswich. And I started to loose cylinders, as i did going to LeMans earlier this year. Sounded like I had possie of cowboys chasing me letting off shotguns.. :-) Excellent I thought, I can prove this quickly, so whipped the bonnet up and moved the wires over to the ready positioned spare coil I had prepared earlier in the year. Then the electronic ignition caught fire. Arse! Seems the repl. coil was duff, despite metering out OK. Quick (ish) change to points and I am ready for the trip home..... Timing is way out though so it may be a slow and gutless drive home... :-( Annoyed Colin
  3. I think it is a combination of new seal that is "oh-so-slightly the wrong shape", slightly thinner new laminated screen and insufficient sealant. I suspect if I didn't have the stainless trim fitted wit would not leak as much, but the trim holds the seal away fron the screen very slightly in the corners and that is not helping. It does leak much at all when stationary, just at speed when the wind blows it round the seal. Cheers Colin
  4. Andy I think the M25 is all about taking a gamble. The last few times some people have gambled and found it moving freely. And when moving freely it is much quicker, and it gets you back quicker. But..... it is like Russian Roulette... Will this be the year when we find the loaded barrel?
  5. New prop fitted Sunday, but couldn't test it until this morning as i was waiting for the new windscreen to be fitted. Noise on the overun now all gone, and new prop seems to be nicely in balance. But....... New windscreen leaks like a sieve at 60. I was getting wet everytime I washed the windows. Grrrrrrrrrr... Urgent phone call to be made when I get to work. Annoyed Colin
  6. timbancroft61 wrote: Its not always like that. Many complete the RBRR without touching the car. And some do it just touching the wheel bearings, a few times... :-)
  7. It has flanges on the rear driveshafts just inside the rear bearings, where the rotoflex ought to be, Cheers

  9. Are they not Panamera or something like that??
  10. You just need to convince everybody to follow the routebook and not miss out the A10... :-( About half of us did the A10 2 years ago, teh other half went via the M25 Cheers Colin

  12. MikeyB wrote:Colin scrapman has suffered sticker rash before now - his paint was also pretty tired Tired, thats a nice description.. ;-) I was thinking more of one starting with F. The best advice of course is not to leave them on until the following event 2 years later... Cheers Colin
  13. 1344 wrote:In fact I was surprised to see the route contained motorways, but 2000 miles all round the country in 48 hrs without useing them would be impossable I would think. Dave ther used to be a lot more motorwys. When we did it is 1990 we did top of teh M6 to bottom of teh M5 in 1 hit. That is a f***ing long and boring slog... :K) Back to Sat-Navs Some lower TomToms do not do itineries. Is yours one of those?? Cheers Colin

[will look in my parts bin for vp] ..so that looking good ..will do more tomorrow... Doug Might be worth investing in a set of the HD tr-metal ones as you have it all apart in front of you. I am fairly sure you won't be driving it carefully... ;-) Was it the crank hitting a GT6 sump??? Cheers Colin

Well Mr Sparky did, but he didn't know better.
  16. New windscreen going in Wednesday with a bit of luck. So if anyone wants a toughened T2000 screen with a 1975 dutch tax disc still in it, let me know... :-) Cheers Colin
  17. Doug I ought to have a manifold and front pipe, let me know if you want me to go digging. Cheers Colin
  18. 1874 wrote:After failing to get to the drivers meet, it now looks like i might need a new auto gearbox :( I know where there is a BW35 about to come out of a car in North London. I have driven teh car and it was fine (If BW35's are your thing.. :-) ) having been rebuilt a few years ago. Cheers Colin
  19. Spent another whole day trying to fit the "uprated" front seats to the PI. Gone for Plan B And then Plan B Mk2, for increased comfort.
  20. James You should have recruited another driver and been chaufferred round sat regally on that lovely big comfortable back seat. :-(
  21. It would have been fitting to have made it 10 miles less this year... Any chance of cutting a corner off. We can Tippex the t-shirts :-)
  22. I can thorougly recommend being at the back all the time, we have tried it a couple of times now, you get to meet a better class of entrant, those that are very proficient at fixing their cars on the fly.... :-) If you constantly stay at the front and be well ahead of everyone else you tend not to see many people, as you are always leaving anywhere just as the bulk of people turn up. A good compromise would be to stick to the timing in the road book I think. ;)
  23. I thought the hole was to reduce a stress point where they were likely to start to fracture. The holed one are just later engines I think. I am sure I have seen un-holed ones in 2.5's. Will need to look through the boxes of bits. Cheers
