  1. Well it seems I broke the PI on Monday , I suspect the strain of hauling 3 fat blokes and a mountain of luggage down the LeMans and back again (but with added ill-gotten gains on the way back) was too much for it. Either a UJ or Driveshaft or teh diff. And itneeds a new coil, and a new steering rack. Best get me finger out! :-)
  2. I did a lot of research into this a year or so ago. There is a few threads http://club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/forum10/Blah.pl?m-1323271721/s-5/highlight-adams/#num5 http://club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/forum10/Blah.pl?m-1294020469/s-70/highlight-adams/#num70 about page 5 of teh second one. For you Dave Potters BAr is ecconomically viable to collect from, so may impact the figures slightly. Also..... There is the mythical "BOC Home Enthusiast" scheme, which betters everything I think, if you can get the details! Cheers Colin

But I noticed on one of the big end journals that there is a very slight ridge that runs round the journal... I am trying to tell myself that as this is only a standard road engine, the ridge (although not ideal) should be ok. Am I kidding myself here? Regrind and new shells all round is just short of 180 quid. It goes against all my leadings, but as budget is now very limited - I am going to continue as planned.(might turn out to regret it). New rod-cap boltys have been bought, but is it recomended to use new main cap bolts on rebuild as these are merely high tensile bolts unlike the 'stretch' rod bolts? Thoughts welcome.. I suspect you may well regret ignoring the ridges on the journals. Are they into or out of the bearing surface? If out you may get away with polishing it and reduce it. Cheers Colin
  4. Is the lock in teh side of the column, or down by your knees? Cheers Colin
  5. I have done 3 ro 4 engines on one now. You need to get a sacrificial backplate if you want to do it properly or you can't get to the rear oild seal hpusing with it on the stand, cHEERS Colin
  6. SAm Just pretend you never rasied the question...  ;)
  7. James Must have somewhere. remind me before the autosolo. Cheers Colin
  8. You can tell the ratio by the colour paint daubed liberally on the input shaft nut. Pink is 3.27 I think, white is 3.63. Red is 3.89. Please take all these with a pinch of salt, I am trying to remember off the top of my head. But.... they used the same colour for different ratios in different cars I think. So a white on a small saloon diff is probably different to white on a big saloon. Cheers Colin

  10. Dave When you say free play, is that movement of the pedal that is making the slave move and pushing the arm to relaese the clutch, or is it "free movment" where nothing is happening. There are master cyl push rods about that are the wrong length, or it could be oval holes in top of pedal and in the pushrod. Wrong bore clutch or slave cyl is another option. Be wary of filing additional slots, certainly until all other optios are chacked, it might be perceived as a bodge to cover another issue. Cheers Colin

  12. Theoretically it shouldn't matter, I put the tighter wound bits at the bottom though as it seemed righter. Cheers Colin

  15. willows40 wrote:colin bring them round and i will put them on my mk1 ;D cheers andy They came frm your neck of the woods, I'm not bringing them back! :-) The Mirage seems to be an American car. They came off a Mitsubishi Saporro. I don't think you will ever see one again, unless you look round the back of his garage where there is a rusty remains of one.
  16. Exhaust wise you have quite a few options. There are also the Phoenix systems, either a wheel-barrow jobbie, or a single offset tailpipe. There are Falcon systems, and the Bell systems, as sold by the TSSc and others. Phoenix and Bell also do a 6-3-1 manifold. I would skip the manifold initially and get it all running then upgrade. They change the characteristics of the engine, and none of the currently available ones are that good at present. This is a very contentious subject and you may wish to spend amny a happy hour browsing the thread archives on the subject. The Phoenix one seems to be the least compromised. Whatever you do, do NOT fit a Bell twin box to a GT6, YOU WILL GO DEAF! 2000 airbox for twin HS4 and twin CD150 is same as GT6. Twin HS6 on a 2500 uses a remote airbox and a pancake adaptor bolted to the carbs. Lots of piccys of GT6's and Mk4 spits with 15inch MGF wheels about, I'm sure someone will oblige. Cheers Colin
  17. Mr Chatterton is very close. I am starting to suspect they are (luckily) the only set in the country judging by a quick check of howmanyleft.co.uk Not sure if that is a :-) as they are the only set or a :-( as the model is now almost extinct.
  18. Oneof my customers offerred me some tyres to remove the tread from round the cones as they were just going old in his shed. If I could take them off teh rims. Picked them up Friday, and being inquisative got teh ruler out. Mmmm I thought, 2000 PCD, so i just had to try. Could do with 1/4 inch spacers (and longer studs) at the front. Not really sure....... 10 points if anyone can work out what they came off Cheers Colin
  19. Yep, buy a new bush were it goes through the bulkhead. Cheers Colin
  20. Colin Perhaps you should use the generic "Team Triumph" that we used when we couldn't care a toss what Triumph club you belonged to, just as long as you belonged to one. You should get Drivers Championship points for going to Blyton, as it is an officially organised event. But no Drivers Challenge points obviously. Cheers Colin
  21. I had assumed Andy meant "leave a Junction XX, Tesco 100yds on LHS" type of thing. Saves you running on vapour and eventually having to buy at expensive locations. We always splash and dash at Morrisons garage, part of the deal to get a pie.. :-) Cheers Colin
  22. Morning Richard I have a set of ones from Rimmers I think. 135799poly I think it said. XCheers Colin
