  1. Mark You might be better with a 3-rail non-OD Vitesse or Gt6 box. I was talking to Mr Helm senior about this, it is getting the special input shaft made up to go with the 4-cyl that was going to cost. Cheers Colin

Isn't there a link between first and reverse ona single rail, as I remember always being told to always pause a long time if going between one and the other on the single rail. Matt commented on your first being taller, is it a Marina gearset or a GT6 one? Cheers Colin
  3. 339 wrote: OK so maybe i should have said "I don't think Triumph used them on GT6's and Vitesse's in the factory"  I haven't found any on my GT6 :-/ :-/ Were tread plates factory fitted or dealer options Mike?   All the tread plates were factory fit. Ideal for drilling holes underneath to wax teh sills. Cheers Colin
  4. Gene You could connect the caliper directly to the master cyl using one of the flexipipes and then try pumping the pistons out with the brake pedal. Cheers Colin
  5. Well you have to take the OD off anyway if you are getting a recon box, so that is the first part out of the way. Then it is just a simple dismantle job following the instructions. Mike Papworth for gearboxes. Hopefully I'll be there tonight we can have a chat. Cheers

  7. I am starting to suspet that the PI has changed it's 10-a-day habit into a 60-a-day habit. Doing some oil consumption testing this weekend hopefully. If bad news either a quick rebuild on the head, or buy large quantities of Wilco cheapo recycled chip-fat oil. If it;s gonna smoke, it might as well make me feel hungry at the same time.... :-) Cheers Colin
  8. Your only hope is probably to get one cut from a scrap car i suspect. Do you have photos of yours so we can see what bits you actually need and how bad the existing ones are. And hopefully the mods will move this thread into the SPitfire / GT6 section shortly. Cheers Colin
  9. Got it, iffy firewall problems at work.... Not that I was looking whilst at work mind....  ;)

Ensure any modifications you do to the bodyshell and chassis look like they are factory standard, and show no signs of modification. Might be very useful in the future and some cars (not yet Triumphs) are already failing MOT's on that and having to submit to IVA tests to get back on the road, which is very difficult to do. Cheers Colin
  12. The fast road inch lower rear springs are a definate, then there is the choice on the front, progressive springs for comfort, or the lowered 200lb (?) springs for a slightly more "sporty" ride. Cheers Colin p.s. all from Mr Witors emporium of shiny things.. :-)

  14. Does Katie not still have her GT6? At least it would still be a GT6. I guess you will need to start looking for a substutute Colin. :-)
  15. If the test is a static one from 1m or similar then they can be passed by very very carfully raising the revs up to the test point and very carefully back down again, that way it doesn't "spike" the noise-o-meter. Mr Helm is very adept at doing that in the TR6, which has quite a loud exhaust on it, but never get close to failing. Cheers Colin
  16. Was that all plugs and and wide open throttle? I don't think it would have run with compressions that low. Cheers Colin
  17. The current repair is to use a Volvo 244 (?) arch repair. Kinda the right profile, ish. Hopefully one day Earlpart will make another batch. You could just buy a big tub of filler and employ a bit of imagination, that's what i did.... :-) Cheers Colin

  19. yes, originally stags were dip on outers and always on, mains in teh centre when required. You now have outers that illuminate mains as well, as you can't get dip only halogen headlights. You could just not wire the mains in the outers, to leave the same as you have, but that is possibly not legal in France. having both dip and main on in the outer will generate more heat and use more power. cheers Colin
  20. TSSC block is £30 plus couple quid P&P for members (it weighs 150g). Cheaper than the other ones available I am sure, as I think they were overseas, but much more expensive than a helicoil. Fit and forget? undoubtably. I am lucky enough to have a few spare alloy ones in the cupboard so will stick with them for a while. I am also lucky enough to know that I am the only one to have taken the engines in all but one of my cars apart, so I know no-one has butchered the block. Cheers Colin
  21. Fit the relay, but make up a dummy earth cable just for visual effect, that way it will never do the dimming. Perfect for concours competitions, no wiring loom bodgery or anything liek that. Cheers Colin

  23. yes to lower compression I am sure. There are alos some heads that are US only having different port spacings Cheers Colin
  24. Yes is the simple answer, you will get many years service just running on unleaded. The heads have excellent "lead memory". The first casualities seem to have been Mk1 2000 engines, and a few very hard driven Mk2's. They much prefer 98 (or 99) to 95 though. Only thing to remember is that any work on teh head will then require harder seats as you will loose that memory. A US car on carbs has 100-odd bhp, a UK car on PI has 150 (CP aand measure in old type hp) or 125 (CR and new type HP) Have a good search through the archives on here, and ask lots of questions. Cheers Colin
  25. I usually seem to have someone's engine crane in my garage, so never found a need to buy one myself.... :-) I suspect the cricket bat is for hitting the owner when he says something inappropriate... :-) Cheers Colin
