  1. Nick probably a bit more. As you are progressing quite quickly, it will need doing again in a few months anyway, so go maximum, they will only payout what it costs anyway, so no point in being under insured. THink of a few scenarios (theft of whole item or something drops on roof or paint gets damaged needing fulk respray) and value against that. I would put £5k on it. Cheers
  2. I found my Alfa seats a bit too high if left with all the height adjuster stuff underneath, so stripped all that off. It then gets much more difficult, as the ones I chose are built up around the alloy shell and the runners are fitted before the seats are upholstered. Not impossible, but quite time consuming. Did the trick for the RBRR. :-) Picture attached. Mine are the logo'd ones, in the not particularly common blue, and I had teh oportunity to get the delivered free if purchased there and then. The ones without the logo (they are the ones with the armrest) are built differently, and are much easier. Mr Radley is the expert, couple of hours to fit them he reckons. He has another set (or 2 :-) ) to do shortly, perhaps he could take some pictures. If he hasn't taken Mr Jones up on teh offer of his Tan ones, we know where there is a tan set! Cheers Colin

It appears to have been dragging on the ground at some point in its past life ??) This is not something which has occurred during the four years we have owned the car. Bruce Front Trunnion or vertical link failure. Part of the history of the car.

I thought that was teh reason 3rdOD and 4th were the same ratio, so you din't have to change between the 2. Column is much better, you don't have to take your hands off the wheel. and the majority of people are right-handed, so in the Uk the gearstick switch is under your weaker and less co-ordinated hand. Cheers Colin
  5. You may also need slightly deep pockets if you buy new, Have a word with Lewis or Stuart up the farm, they may ba able to assist. Cheers
  6. comparing to an original 185/82-13 then a 195/65-15 is near identical. a 175/82-13 compares to a 195/60-15 I have some 185-15's at home you could try... :-)
  7. Do all Mk1 have the same speedo internal gearing? Dave What you need to do it go out in the car and see how inaccurate the speedo is to start with, then buy tyres that will reduce that inaccuracy. Are you changing the gearbox?? THat will upset it as well posibley. Cheers Colin
  8. As i said, Mk1 had a selection of different sized tyres originally. Depends on which one you are matching. Mk1Pi was 185-13. Wasn't late Mk1 2000 155-13 or 165-13?? Then there was at least one size of crossply earlier on as well cheers
  9. Dave don't forget that there were a few different original sizes. I run 205/65 at the moment, and also did when I had Gertie, not any real clearamce issues, but have twatted the arch a couple of times when reversing over bumps with lots of lock on. Big balloon tyres.. :-) Perhaps slightly oversize..... lots of TR6;s have 195/55 on them. I have a set of 205/55 to fit next. That price seems very very good for Michelins, must be a cheap/common size off a Focus or Mondeo or something.. You can pay that for Chinese ditch-finders in some other near sizes. Where were you shopping?? looks like some sort of warehouse. Cheers Colin
  10. Nick_Jones wrote:PS the 1 tonne seats might simply be comment that the BMW seats are flippin' heavy - 'cause they are! No, they are even heavier than that. I would expect them to double the weight of a Herald /Vitesse, and seriously impact the performance of a Big saloon. There are a lot of experts about now at fitting Alfa 156 seats. One day one of them will take some photos! Cheers Colin
  11. A=type big saloon box. number is usually stamped on the bump in the bellhousing where the starter motor bendix goes. Cheers Colin
  12. Dave Firstly, please do not just hack the connectors off the ends and twish them together, or insert the butchered ends into a chocolate block connector. Please! :-) What does look really professional is to gut the control box and solder in some copper strip or heavy wire connecting the terminals together. Looks original but doesn't do anything! Also means a quick conversion back to dynamo is ever required, just fit a spare control box. Wires are the same as a Herald, just yours are very dirty. Black is no longer required. Connect thin brown/yellow to thin brown green Connect heavy wires together, one is brown the other brown/yellow. Cheers Colin
  13. It is not just the bolts, the seals inside are just as important. They can be purchased, I am sure at least one of the Triumph traders sells them. They will probably be caphead bolts now, to ensure the correct strength. Cheers Colin
  14. ferny wrote:Use tape to, erm, tape them? That way they can be removed and fitted to other screens should they ever need to be used in "another" car. :) Better thing to do is stick them to a sheet of sticky back plastic cut to the same size. then they can be removed without damage :-)
  15. You just need a flexi brake pipe, and couple of adaptors to allow it to pass through the tunnel (or bulkhead) Should be quite easy. I think.. :-)
  16. I would suspect as a UK based club everything has to be submitted to the MSA and also to the equivalent organisation in every country passed through. May also be something buried deep in EU legislation governing this sort of thing. Lots of legislation is now cross-border, and you also have to contend with local legislation. Does France have an equivalent of the Terrorism Act or whatever it is that prevents more than 2 people gathering in a single place? Unauthorised gatherings? Convoys? All reasons why you have to jump through numerous hoops, and get permits etc. Is insurance valid if partaking in an "event" that is not officially sanctioned? So many pit-falls. Cheers Colin
  17. I think Mk1 GT6 differs from Rotoflex Mk2/3, which differs from self-adjusting late Mk3. Do you have a fixed spring? Rotoflex? or a swing spring. Nott 100% positive identification, but might give a clue. Cheers Colin

Not sure as to wether there is a "modern" equivalent ? I paid £15 or so a set for my Vandervells from Rimmers a couple of years ago. they are 20 or 30 thou unders mind, so not the most popular size. Got Big ends and mains. They used to appear each year in the sale, so I splashed out. Cheers Colin

  22. TR6 steel wheels on a Mk2 is a bit like playing Russian Roulette, only very occassionally do they fit. They hit the arches on the back as teh offset is wrong. Even with very skinny tyres. You could fit Mk1 rear suspension of course. There will now follow a chorus of Mk2 owners who have done it without any issues what-so-ever... :-) Cheers Colin

  24. Ok Theo I got it worng again. I know it is the Netherlands, not Holland. I just forgot, again. Thats teh trouble with us Brits, we are uneducated! :-)
