  1. But this is the usual escalation; People will start ignoring the bright lights.  8) Whats next, brighter lights, flashing strobe brake lights when stationary.   :X I know someone who drives at night wearing sunglasses, as the car lights are too bright and the can get a migraine.

It was designed in a more considerate age; when people did not want to blind the driver of the car following them, through an excess of bright lights. Nowadays the rear of a Volvo, Honda or BMW at night looks like a left over from Star Wars or Star Trek.
  3. Either disconnect the earth wire; or if the terminals are corroded, join the corresponding wires together with a soldering iron.

  5. What year GT6? MkI & II were chromed, I think the later MkIII's were black. The part is not painted but rather a metal coating.
  6. Yes, Steel is hard work to deform into the correct shape for the ends and quietly rusts away in hidden locations. Copper is more malleable but can quickly work harden and fracture from repeated bending. Kunifer is also easily formed like copper, takes longer to work harden; but stays shiny for longer  ;D I tend to use Kunifer now (with brass ends)

  9. Depends on the spec of your engine. If you are staying 2litre you could rebuild your gearbox with an uprated GT6 mainshaft from Canleys and fit a J'Type OD unit from a Saloon/Spitfire/Dolly etc. With the 2.5 PI engine, I've got an 1850 Dolomite J Type gearbox fitted at present (reverse by 3rd), its an 1" longer than a GT6 unit. Although the plan is to rebuild this into a GT6 casing with a CC adapter. Means I can keep reverse by 1st and it will then be a standard length.

  11. But, you have to change the sump!    ;D

My only suggestion is that test 2 seemed counter intuitive at the end, I think a lot of people (myself included) went wrong there. If test 2 had flowed a bit better then maybe there would have been time for test 4? I wonder how hard the course was in a big saloon without PAS, Maybe I'll enter the MkI PI next year  ;) Can the results be post on here?

  14. Just put a note with the form and I'm sure Tim will sort it out for you. Spitfire 1300?

  17. I thought HE on the end meant High Compression. So yes E would be for the low compression (overseas) vervions.
  18. My Spitfire with the 6-3-1 Mike the Pipe extractor could only physically take the Spitfire/GT6 starter, this kept getting burnt out with the High Compression 2.5PI. There was no space for the Saloon pre-engaged starter. I do not think they are needed on the 4 pots, but they are a benefit on the 6 pots and they do crank them over quicker than normal.
  19. I'm surprised the Spitfire 1500 was not upgraded to it.
  20. Talk to Dave Pearson at Canley Classics, he got a reconditioned one for Jessica's Hearld. It was cheaper than that. ps Jessica's Herald has a 1500 with a Dolomite starter (as she found out last year).
