  1. Tony, So right about the snagging list pages, two pages needed in the next Roadbook. Dave Langrick was responsible for this idea, as to be expected from him an idea that reeks of common sense. The Vitesse looked good, in fact so good that Dave K and I drove past it 3 times on M6! Brilliant the way you get a 2 car team together.
  2. All in all I think most of the crews taking part sussed out the event and got into the swing of things. I was amazed at the enthusiasm of all the Marshals, very appreciated. Some of the banter was very funny.
  3. All, We would be very interested to hear of any thoughts about the Controls that we used. One place that was not a success was Sixpenny Handley, John and co did a great job finding the venue, however the Village Hall doubled booked us! Back to Pimperne?
  4. Anyone use the Snagging chart on page 57 of the Roadbook? Dave and I did, as follows: Adjust wiper position on spindles Steering play Sticky throttle pedal Bleed brakes (!) Fit window winders Passenger seat belt noisey Fit speedo that works-Have one I bought from Chris Witor. Noisy gearbox-re-build needed. Washer jets to be re-postioned Fit new grommets to engine bay bulkhead. Lots of these needed to be done before the RBRR! Anyone else?
  5. Got to agree, I never seen a Fibeglass bonnet (Apart from a T6) that does not have major fit issues. Even the new steel assemblies are far from brilliant.
  6. Well, a far more successful RBRR than the 2010 event. 8% retirement, as follows: Car 4: Herald: Driveshaft Car 5. Herald: Driveshaft Car 23. Vincent Hurricane: Crashed Car 35. TR3A: ? Car 68. Vitesse: Driveshaft Car 72. Dolomite: Water Pump Car 82. Herald: ? Car 88. Spitfire: Rear wheel bearing Sorry to all the crews in the above cars, we do hope that all of you got back home ok. Massive commiserations to Steve Povey as his car is the only one that suffered from some damage due to part failure. Amazing that only one engine part failure, a difficult repair on a slant 4 engine otherwise that could have been up and running. As ever, not one Acclaim retired. What more can one say!
  7. Blimey, an epic story. Derek, thanks so much. Absolutely gutted to hear about Steve's Vitesse. Hope not to bad. Another RBRR, another glut of sad stories.
  8. Reckon Tim could have driven the event again, jeez I'd hate to go out for a drink(!) with him. Seriously buzzing!
  9. Doug, You are using 15'' wheels, that coupled with overdrive will be sufficient. Diff change is what, 3hrs work.
  10. Simple reasons for using more direct roads: 1. Complaints about the tricky route last time. 2. M40 and M25 are simple and do not require brain activity. 3. As Yogi states, the other route means lots of speed humps encountered, not good for Spits/GT6/TRs. Sometimes we do seem to be dammed which ever decision we take. As always, I must advise that the route is in fact advisory.
  11. Sorry John, Breakfast is at Lands End, not Okehampton. Yes, everyone does indeed form an orderly queue. The system does work. :)
  12. Had a day and a half of doing odds and sods to the saloon. Fitted new seal where throttle pedal rod passes through the bulkhead, a job that I thought would be  pig, in fact turned out to be easy! Tidied up some wiring Changed the oil (VR1) including fitting a nice Cooper Fram deep filter. Balanced the carbs. Oh and changed NS track rod end as the rubber had perished on the one I fitted last year!!!! To Do: Need to road test the car and find rear end clonk, think it will be the rear prop uj. Wash and polish the car: Bit depressed as she is starting to rust-NSF wheelarch is starting to look dodgy. Clean out the interior. Sort the tools and spares Love the old car, found it almost easy doing the RBRR 4 years ago in the car.
  13. Martin, Jeez, you went through it! Well done for keeping at it! I can see why you have not entered the last 2 RBRRs now!!!! Eagerbeaver, Its not always like that. Many complete the RBRR without touching the car.
  14. Unfortunately James Cooper had to withdraw as he has had to have some serious knee work! However, he is a real trooper who will be at Sixpenny Handley helping with the Marshalling. At pres. he has Alex over at his house sorting out the return water pipe that goes behind the manifold. Not a bad lad, crap driver though! Sorry to go off thread.
  15. John, Sorry its a bit early. Hope to see you at Okehampton. Marshals are Stephen Attenborough and Gordon Townley.
  16. Ted, Having some issues as the 9old) Severn Road Bridge M48 is shut over the weekend of the RBRR. Therefore it has been suggested that crews drive the following route: Abergavenny-A40-A449-Newport. Join the M4 at Jct 24 and cross over the Second Severn Crossing Bridge(The new bridge) to Jct 22. Join the M49 and then join the M5 @ Jct 18a, just before Gordano. Seems to work. Therefore we will not be using the A466, something I am disappointed about as I love that road. Hope that we do see you, how about coming up to Sugar Loaf near Llandovery? Bit of a drive etc but a tremendous place o see the cars as it does seem to be like a old RAC Rally stop. BTW if doing so, bring a torch!!! Timings: Sugar Loaf: 00.38 to 01.38 Gordano Services: 02.51 to 03.51 Hope to see you somewhere and thanks for the interest in the event.
  17. Umm, had some fun and games this week. The establishment that we had booked  months ago contacted me and stated that they could not help as they have had some serious problems. Therefore the breakfast for Cornwall will be at Lands End Hotel, the place we have used for many a year. Please note that LEH are under new management and have been incredibly helpful to me in finding a new source of food at short notice, literally saved my bacon! So arrive at LE as the Road Book, have one's breakfast and then proceed to Bude. This information will be published within the Final Instructions that will be distributed to crews as they sign in. Remember at the start, all crew members must sign in-immediately upon arrrival!
  18. Ferny, great thread! I have lots: 1. The major one: See all cars and crews finish the event successfully and safely. The buzz amongst all the finishers at the end in The Plough is one of the best things I have encountered. 2. Enjoy the start at The Plough: Cannot say this enough, but the car park at the start is just brilliant, a proper way to display Triumph motor cars. 3. Enjoy some good quality driving: The Scottish Highland and Welsh roads are just the best, especially when amongst other Triumph cars. 4. Finish the event: Still not laid a spanner on the car. The RBRR team are having a busy time! 5. Yet again, prove that the RBRR is the old car event!
  19. Got them fitted to the Focus, bloomin' brilliant! That VR1 is cheap. This Club sells the stuff, really good oil. Mr Barker put me onto the stuff, will not use any other oil now.
