  1. The trip to CLM proved that the old Saloon needs some attention: UJs to Prop. Finally get the throttle linkeage sorted-this has been a pita since purchase in '94. Tune the car Sort out some of the rust that is starting to show its ugly head. Usual places: NSR wheel arch and NSF wheel arch. Dashboard wiring bodge Otherwise just make the car look smart. Only used the 2.5 for one of my 7 RBRR completions, found the event relatively easy in her. That explains why 33% of the cars taking part are big saloons.
  2. Graham, The engine before last in my GT6 had very high oil pressure, I was always warned that I should encounter issues, none at all. Think I gave it to Doug F., not sure where it is now, had a nice balanced bottom end and nice light flywheel, all done by Hilthorne Engineering in Hanwell about 1985. Great engine, not sure why I took it out now!!!! My 2.5(SU-yes, thank you PI fanatics) has 60psi at 3000rpm after being thrashed, god knows what the mileage is, 170K?, the engine is just starting to get abit fumey (Spelling?), so maybe next year for a rebuild. Hope all is good with you in Aus (BTW I see Andy Mac has just re-joined the Club).
  3. I realize that there is a 'sticky' thread that shows RBRR vids and I hope that the owners of these will consent to us using some of the cleaner ones to show at the forthcoming RBRR Drivers Meeting at Gaydon. However is anyone has any RBRR footage from recent years that we can use, please stick them on this thread or the 'sticky' one and we will show them if appropriate. Thanks very much.
  4. I have a MotoLita wheels on my Gt6 and on my saloon, both are superb wheels offering both feel and strength. The MotoLita on my GT6 has been on since 1987, still looks good. I intend to get one for the Spitfire soon.
  5. My thoughts exactly. Pete is correct, do ensure when fitting the setscrews and cheese heads that they are fitted in the correct order-ask me how I know!
  6. More understeer, yep, you need that!
  7. Nick, I have that board, nos stanpart. Let me know if interested.
  8. Got to recommend Valvoline VR1, excellent oil that seems to hold onto its properties very well. Usually between £27-30 a plastic can.

  10. Do check as Mike B states. I had what I thought were hot running issues years ago with my mk2. Changed the temp gauge for a mechanical unit and found that the car was in fact running ok. I had changed the voltage regulator, however in the end reckon that resistance in the wiring loom was causing a problem. All 3 of my Triumph cars now run with Smiths mechanical temp gauges, accurate enough for these old cars. I still believe that a std GT6 will cope with the std radiator, ensure that the whole cooling system is in good condition and duct the air through the grille and all should be ok. Its only us poor misguided fools with mod'ed cars that have problems!
  11. Dave, Shame that you are not taking part in the autosolo.
  12. Check the drain hole in the bell houising, if oil coming out of there it is probably the coppper washer on the bottom bolt of the 5 that connect the bellhousing to the box. Is the breather clear?
  13. Its a Triumph man's priviledge to adjust his valve clearances!
  14. Try Quickfit from Stanmore, Middlesex 0208 206 0101 Have a look at their website, informative. Hope of use, I used them a couple of years ago, very impressed.
  15. Tim, Have you fitted a front to rear brake bias valve? If not how do you find the front to rear balance?
  16. Purple GT6 conv. was owned by Mike Bestard, and what a nice bloke. Have'nt seen him around for sometime though. Note that Mike's car has MGF alloys fitted with low profile tyres. He complained to me on the 07 10CR that the car dd not ride that well on the wheel/tyre combo. Personally, I would go for 13'' 5.5J wheels with 175/70 13 rubber. All very cheap and civilised and one that offers a good ride/handling compromise. My GT6 has a phoenix single pipe system c/w a 6>3>1 system, not too bad and nice and quiet!!
  17. All of the stops have been booked and arranged. Obviously the Tebay MSA will be the southbound one.
  18. Please note that we only use motorway services (Blyth, Tebay and Gordano) at times or locations when/where suitable venues that can withstand a visit of 100no. cars are not available. Tebay is owned by a farmers co-operative and I think offers reasonably priced fuel. The other places we visit that have fuel facilities will be competively priced for their vicinity: Morrison's Garage, Stirling, Gledrid Services, Oswestry and White House Services, A30 Okehampton. Part of the deal that we make with these 3 locations is on the understanding that crews will buy fuel from them. Morrison's opens specially for us and it would be nice to use the PFS at the garage, most crews do buy from there. As for providing a list of cheap fuel, surely that is up to crews to sort and arrange. Andy has kindly told me that he will provide a list a cheap PFSs, and we will forward this list if required. As some of these will be off route, I do wonder if teams will have time to go and find them?
  19. Thanks Bill for opening this thread. I will be chatting to a few CT'ers next w'end in Scotland, so if you have not entered the RBRR and see me, leg it!
  20. Got to agree with AJP. Drive the car and enjoy it for as long as possible. Build up whatever spec you want and get everything ready for the change over. Try and make the change as streamlined as poss., so many cars have not been finished as the owners have found that they have taken too much on. I'd look at brake and suspension mods. first, then drivetrain, then engine. Moving the engine back is a big job, see how you get on with the engine in its std position. James C has not piped up and I know we are like minded on this, but I don't like 2.5 engines in GT6s, revvy 2.0L engines (bit like the one in James' saloon) are the way for these cars-they are sportscars.
  21. Nothing happening with Compton Abbas, to be honest I wrote a letter to them to request the use. No reply and before I could think about calling to chase, the Southern area members have come up with a viable solution. So, no Compton Abbas I am afraid. 3 new stops on the RBRR this time.
  22. I think the mk1 Pi did have them, my car has one and I am certain that its the original item.
