Perhaps now we're not allowed to call it the Round Britain Reliability Run we should all is the 48 Hour Badger Splatter? Or should the club take up that idea as a Dolomite only event? Winner is the one with the smelliest exhaust manifold. I've had a look under the car this morning, and there's still bits of fur attached to the rear anti roll bar, I think an underside pressure wash is called for before any more spannering work  ;D Andy did encourage me to go for a small dog on the way to Dartmoor, the trouble was that there was a human attached to it via  a lead  ;D ;D ;D

Alex wrote: So pleased you both made it Mike but don't leave all your prep till 4 am next time  ;D So has the sprint curse been lifted or is it getting broken for spares   ;D I will say nothing about the 4am prep ...... couldn't let AJP down after offering him a drive. The Sprint is not cursed anymore, in fact it will even get a polish and a clean ! although not with one of Andy's internal wipes  8) We could evan have rebuilt the dizzy at Pimperne, if we both hadn't been too tired to diagnose the issue, must have been karma to have grabbed that old seized dissy as I departed the house on the way to the Plough

  4. I seem to recall it was partially shut 2 years ago along one section, the diversion was well signposted, if a little slow mike

  6. Ted, you can borrow my stag tank if you want to collect from Sutton Coldfield - they are the same as the estate tank pm me mike

  8. nang wrote:Can anyone tell me if 2500 and Stag share the same units please I need inner ball cups. The only listing I can find is from Rimmers for Stag. Thanks Tony. Yes they are the same except one rack - cannot remember which has different travel stops, otherwise fully interchangeable

  10. If it does stick on again DO NOT put the car into reverse - this can easily destroy overdrives - its all to do with the one way clutch
  11. I have a TNT account, and my business is based in Coventry - which is only a few miles from Rugby. I'll happily take and fetch from Coventry to Rugby and back again - I forget which overdrive company is in Rugby, (thats my age !) but its one of the 2 you have spoken to. Reimburse the TNT costs and I'll sort the UK end for you. I'll have to get a quote from TNT - because they have allsorts of rates dependant upon your turnover and whats on the web isn't always correct (ask me how I know  :o ) Anything to see your car on the RBRR send me a pm to sort the details out mike

Are stag disc and callipers a simple bolt on job It's the track rod ends and the front suspension insert gator stag bits bolt straight on but you may need 14" wheels track rod end boots are available on ebay strut gaitors should be replaced but are cheap, but the replacements wont last long either  :o
  13. Stag disks and calipers - cheaper than new mk1 discs often the boots on the track rod ends do need replacing for an mot, and the gaiters too - you can get new boots on ebay
  14. Do it yourself for about £22 http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Engineering+Parts-Shaft+Repair+Sleeves-Imperial+Shaft+Repair+Sleeves/c4713_4847_4850/index.html Measure the OD of the shaft. Buy suitable sleeve. Lightly coat shaft with hylomar or similar, tap speedy sleeve into place, remove locating ring from sleeve Job done. The sleeve is only fractions of a mm thick and will fit without issue under the oil seal, and gives a perfect smooth surface for the seal to rub on / seal against

Hope you get it sorted Mike,it does sound like you caught it in time, so as you said hopefully a quick fix Its back with me today. The gearbox was ok when refilled, and was still working when I stopped so I see no reason to have caused any damage. I am more upset that I couldn't fix it at the roadside. Does go well though  :) :) :)

  18. Jason wrote: So the shopping list is new everything then, with a bronze release bearing carrier then? Is all this the same on the TR6 as on the saloon and Stag? Yes bronze carrier is good. Saloon and Stag both have differences to the length of the bearing carrier from each other and the TRs, and the good stag clutches have a longer gearbox nose piece, but all a similar system. Don't grease, the factory didn't and it just gets sticky and full of old clutch lining
  19. Bearing carrier and fork is (are) shot. Those marks on the fork and the indents in the carrier are all it needs to spoil the clutch action. The pin needs wiring too, (thats what the hole is for) on refitting to stop it coming loose
  20. Its more fun than a Herald Spitfire etc etc as the box is so much heavier  :-/ Yes just fit 2 bearings each side - the alloy housing is about 25mm thick, and a bearing about 10mm, so 2 fit each side without issue, and with a larger surface they wear more slowly
  21. Sometimes its the clutch bearing carrier sticking slightly on the gearbox nose piece - check for sharp edges / rough edges etc. Also wear where the slipper pins fit in the bearing carrier - check the grove is uniform with straight edges. You can double up the cross shaft bearings in the gearbox too Have fun, pull the box you know it makes sense  :)

    performance exhaust

Just watch the fit where the pipes go through the trailing arm holes.  It's a tight fit and if they touch you'll get horrible vibrations that seem more propshaft related
  23. That's worse than Chatters in a frock  ;D That's going to worry me on my flight to Moscow Remind me never to offer a co drive to Dave  ;)

    performance exhaust

So far as I know all the stainless steel ones are all straight through. How much noise they make depends upon the tailpipes - these are available in small - slightly noisy or big - more noisy  :) If you can afford it get the 4 branch manifolds too - worth about 10hp

John I have the Innovate kit and hope to fit it to the Stag (as part of the EFI project) in the next 2 weeks - I'll let you know about the software!
