  1. Im getting a nose for this one, the idea of Bills, battery acid and add child vomit into the equation sounds ......  an absolute delight        I thought we had solved a carpet soaked after an accident with a tray of eggs commiting suicide off the back seat  ....till you parked the car in the sun for a few hours and that was  mega foul,,   grandson was sick in the Vitesse....yeh about 4 gallons of porridge and puke.....strangely it never ponged   but  slime went everywhere ...   Pete
  2. before you jump just make sure this is not just down to  a rich mixture washing the bores   whats on the boot lid,, black soot, oily deposits , whats the actual oil consumption , pete
  3. as herald is fitted with an non ballasted 12v system make sure the new coil  has a 3 ohm primery, you may find the coil you have failing is from a ballasted system and is only 1.5 ohms,  this ups the HT to blow things and consumes twice the current,so can melt points this may explain the extra heat, yes they get hot but not frying tonight. make sure the polarity is correct , what ever the battery earth is negative  then the coil -ve goes to the dizzy,  and +ve gets the white feed wrong way round will heat thing up and obscure misfires turn into failures, with little apparent to see why just some thoughts Peter
  4. the cheapest option is to fit a larger pedal pad .. makes a vast difference, have to say a servo does not improve the foundation braking...but certainly takes the Oooh Sh1t out of a situation. Pete
  5. old trick to test the rotor. take off cap, hold main ht lead from coil 10mm above the rotor,  get the engine cranked over , if the spark jumps to the rotor its aerthing thro to the cam,, its stuffed. if no spark jumps then its fine Pete
  6. Hi ,  Bill the kit is loosly called universal, comes with a mounting bracket ,and no clues the general position is to face it at 90deg to the master cylinders so the can fits next to the heater box and the cast cyl points over the clutch master. I didnt know that when we hunted around  with a sort of  'Ok were the heck will this go'. we  cut and reduced the battery tray width to suit the battery  and moved it closer to the outside, this left enough room to drop the mounting plate onto the baulkhead if that makes any sense Pete
  7. we bought one from merlin motorsport has the plastic upright reservoir which is fine just dont 'brim' it. Pete
  8. on some strombergs the float has two needle operating arms, this allows the floats to be fitted upside down and you get incorrect fuel level regardless of it being 1.5 or 1.75 burlen link http://www.sucarb.co.uk/CarbEssentials.aspx?ProductId=8150 shows the two arms. http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/technical.htm   good techy explanation and photo guide of setting strombergs,, never mind the size the principles are the same pete
  9. Dot4 is fine Pete Ques  what is the dia on your master cyl bore , ( this  often cast in the outside of the  body) has it always been heavy or has this condition crept up on you ?? Pete
  10. the main reason for the stripped threads is by fitting  too long  setscrews, these bottom out and a light nip pulls the threads, many repair with M8 or up to next unf .     this applies to the timing cover and the sump screws, If you do take the sump off on car ,  should you have difficulty getting a sump to clear the suction tube , you can get to the 3 oil pump bolts through the gap and unscrew to let the pump drop into the sump, all depends on pump / tube design and splash gauze aperture . Pete
  11. add a seized pedal pivot bushes , this stops the Mcyl returning and recuperation fails making bleeding hopeless. sure you dont have a mixed coil cover throw out with a diaphragm cover . Pete
  12. when its out its worth replacing the rubber olive on the  suction tube , unclip the reserve lever and unscrew the sleeve nut if any local reparer can cut the useless drian tube off and plate the base, you can fill the nasty hole in the boot floor, no more corrosion , and the tanks so easy to remove/ refit,   Pete
  13. we have done exactly the same in the past and agree its easy, just make sure the grove is clean and tap the clip fully home , you dont want one to pop out .   so you can now join the big clip antiknock brigade and guess you wont be the first to replace everything twice to no avail,, tis all part of the fun     Pete
  14. doesnt really matter but the slide release is shown towards the tunnel side the seat frames are the same part numbers  what is odd is the height /for/aft holes in the seat and slide base need to be offset to get the rear of the frame to drop onto the runners if you use the what seems obvious holes in alignment the seat will be angled and the tubes miss the runners at the back  if that makes sense    Pete
  15. I had hard ride at the back with a swinger on the vit6 caused lower ride ht and was  riding on the shocker bump stops so took 2 of the 3 out to get some travel but have now dumped the swinger for a courier unit 1" spacer and pair of spax,  result  ...  no roll   Peter
