  1. Chris Witor might still have original Vandervel bearings - but you must know size (standard, oversize etc) Or phone Canley - they know what is available. County - tradename for e.g. King bearings. For early spitfires there are at least two quality available: Trimetal, and standard - but you will only see it on the box. Might be the same with bearings for the 6cyl. engines. If no vandervel - go for trimetal/heavy duty/gold seal or what ever they call it :-)
  2. Different countries different rules me guess. Done right, from an engineering point of view, I wouldn't be afraid though. Anyway - looking at the latest picture, my advise would be to cut that home made sill off and replace with a OE one. Not that expensive.
  3. Louis, the repair done on your LH sill could be ok; as John D states above, it would be difficult for even a skilled welder not to do any distortion on the panels if fully seam welded. My guess is, that a PO did fabricate part of the sill; or bought one of the crap repro ones offered up in the 90ish. If not rotted out, clean up and use sealer at the upper edge. If you want to put a new (heritage) sill on, brace the door and spotweld the new in. Depending on what repair is needed to the rest (i.e. middle sill, heel board, box section behind heelboard, lower a and -b post etc, its not that difficult.
  4. ... and you will see blood coming from your fingers  8)
  5. Sorry, I would say most unlikely - with original pump. Worn needle valve in float chamber or just crap in there.
  6. Are these ones difficult to find? Newer seen them on e.g. ebay or at the usual suspects... (header tank it is...)
  7. No runners with original seats? You can buy the lower part if rusted out (there is a spring inside) http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RL1646 *Edit*: Didn't see they were out of stock... sorry. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-SPITFIRE-MK2-3-SEAT-RUNNER-SLIDE-PAIR-RIGHT-AND-LEFT-HAND-/181395613192?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a3c056608 Round knob! Pricey though... Will fit your early seats, but you will have to drill new holes at the sill side.
  8. believe they became wider on the late spitfire mk 3 (FD75...) and all mk 4/1500 (European). Don't know with GT6. New floor pans made for later spitfires seat rails/runners only
  9. Yep - you newer know what you have in your arms before 'it' comes out.... Nice to see both young & old girl doing well - and in good hands - two kids of my own did slow down all kinds of projects too 🙂
  10. This might explain better what I am trying to say:
  11. Sure your sills has not been pressed too much up? New floor pans are repro panels, but far far better than those available in the 90'. They are good but certainly not perfedt reproductions of the originals, but the outer floor flange for the sill is not (always) as deep as the original, which makes the whole sill assembly try to sit higher than it wants to.
  12. There was one on ebay a few months ago, sit down before you ask what it went for!  :o If broken, they are often not that difficult to repair.
  13. Chris: IMHO - not for the early ones (its a mk 3 spit) Cheers Jens
  14. H-support is mounted in front of the dash panel, so should fit without any problems?
  15. The bracket in both sides are for the lower crash pads (under parcel trays). http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ImagePopUp.aspx?i=GRID005936
  16. Take pictures and post them here, I am sure you will find your way out. Its not difficult.
  17. Mintex 1144 often sold with these anti squeal pads.

    GT6 Rocker bush

Don't know if they will help, but try at Moss - they sell refurbished rockers (done with a bush me thinks).

    Driveshafts

    Radius arms? Radius arms brackets?
  20. I vote for 0,9mm and 1mm when middle sill.

Chris: Could have been worse...  ??)
  22. I bought a kit from Canley a few years ago, no problem, was spot on. But would have liked one with a vernier wheel - are they still available for a Triumph though???
  23. From memory (later spitfire) middle one should be powered from the headlamp switch with a red wire (and might be with green tracer), supplying all side markers and numberplate lamps (red wire). Have no gt6 wiring diagram here, must be more or less equal to later spitfire. Take a look here: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/wiring.html beware not all are correct.

    trunions

Quote: Modern replicas have a steel cap swaged to the bottom, which can leak Hi John, Sure about this - I have had several NOS ones in my hands, but never seen any like that? (but 'nos' ones could be replicas too...) I would just have expected to have seen some on the cars I have replaced those trunions on too. Cheers, Jens.
  25. Might not be that difficult, but you need to isolate the rivets not only by the small square pad you can see but also then they pass through the holes. I have done a few, and used isolating (pvc or equal) from wires cut to size. Its not that difficult to fabricate the 'connector' on top, you just need a small plate to older wire to, and that can take the rivets. Then don't forget the isolating paper plate on the back side!
