Louis, Have several here by me, but living in Copenhagen, Denmark, postage will be pricey - and I will have to take one off first (don't have the time next 2 or 3 weeks). PM me if you sill haven't found one then.

Paul, It did look like cast to me, but must admit I just binned it as it was very rusty (and I had several extra still attached to other uprights in the bone-yard, left corner of my shed :o ) Will take a look later. Cheers, Jens

Track Rod & Inner Ball Joint? Rimmer has stock - but don't look at price (cheaper to buy a new steering rack...) Or Steering Arm (cast)? Rimmer has stock, but would be cheaper to buy s/h on evilbay (some NOS ones there too)

Agree with James. Start cleaning it up so you know what will need replacement and what can be saved. Go for repair if possible, not replacement as new inner panels doesn't fit very well :B

James Paddock sells the oe shock mount - but guess you will have to make the reinforcement panel sandwiched between yourself. Not that difficult though.

There were some frame extensions available years ago, mounted on top next to th original spitfire chock towers; don't know if they are still available. OE Mount brackets for gt6 are still available though

How bad is your existing rear deck panel? Pictures ;-) I do have a s/h one (spitfire mk 3) here, but will be very pricey to ship from Denmark. Re panel between boot and rear wing: Bought the last Drain Channel panel (903100) Paddock had in stock a few years ago; best bet would be to find a damaged or rusted out spitfire (ask graveyard or quiller) and get them from there. They are very rare and I have only seen them on evilbay once or twice (bought one from US too).

Nick_B. wrote:Wheels also silver. Windowframe is black. Ignition key is columnmounted instead of dashmounted. Only one reversinglight on a console above the numberplate. No scrolling script Spitfire Mk3, but a spitfiire badge on the wings and bonnet and a triumph badge on the bootlid I don't know which shade of silver, just grabbed the ordinary silverthing from the local shop Cheers Nick And different position of wipers + minor changes in floor pan layout ... :-)

Don't know with the mk 2 engine; but I had no problems fitting a late pump on my FD (mk 3) engine. If oil pump partno is identical between mk 2 and mk 3 engine, you should be home free!

Alec, Agree with your view re. how much hot zinc will affect the chassis compared to rot. Law is another matter though. Believe its made out of the simple comparison between a 'blank' nail and a galvanized (try to compare, later one is much softer). Very difficult to get a special non production car through MOT in Denmark. Even a 'buggy' (VW build) has become difficult due to changes in law. Don't know the details. Cheers, Jens

Hi Alec, If you make your own chassis, you will have to prove its an exact copy of the original. So, if you need a new one for e.g. your Landy, you simple import it from the UK. But once painted, no one will see - and then: Only a very few know how a chassis on a spitfire should look like. Its many years ago I had metallurgy (did a degree in engineering) - but have always been told heating steel up to 4-500 deg. will weaken it. Don't know how much, and have seen a Spitfire Chassis galvanized with no known problems. Was painted though :-)

Hi Alec, Its not allowed in Denmark as its not allowed.... (=its not proved from factory). But its also not allowed to put e.g. a zetec engine in a spitfire here; or - its very difficult to get through Danish MOT. But galvanisation will weaken the steel - but I don't know how much. Has seen it done on a Triumph chassis, so possible. Metallization will not go inside the chassis, but depending on who is doing the job, IMHO be better than electro galvanisation (might protect some areas of the inside, but difficult to get enough flow around edges etc). Will need dinitrol or equal inside. Had all my suspension parts metallized years ago - still like new.

Try taking a galvanized nail and compare it with one that is not. Galvanisation of a Triumph frame is illegal here in Denmark, but have seen it done with no problems. I had mine metallized with hot zinc (its a spray process that doesn't affect the strength and done on modern cars thin bodywork). Not a fan of powder coating my self. Etch prime and 2-pack for me please 8)
