  2. Thanks for the help thus far guys  ;) There's good, thumping vibration at ~30mph and ~60mph, so that leads me to think propshaft in the first instance. Mind you, I'll reassess once I've got the car on decent (round, not old and still flexible!) tyres...  ;D
  3. Hi  :) I need to get the prop on my PI checking, since the previous owner replaced a UJ without rebalancing, so could anyone please recommend a place nearish Chichester? Cheers  :)

  5. Nice work Lloyd  ;) Good to see and others kick-starting the marketplace again!
  6. I think I was there - I remember buying then immediately fitting a new rubbing strip to my TC's front bumper  :) I don't remember Alan being sponsored to keep quiet... :X 18 years ago.  Oh my... :-/

Pah!  ;) :P I regularly drive cars with 6.6 or 6.75 litre V12 engines.  One prototype car I drove many years ago had a 9 litre V16 lump in it  8)

It used to do the Norwich Union every year. Its been to several Gaydon Triumph shows on Register (and other) stands. As mentioned above its done a couple of Chatsworth Historic Rally stages. Bills taken it abroad several times whilst we have looked after it and done foreign historic rallys. It was due to do the Prescott Triumph day earlier this year, but I couldn't drive it, and Bills other car ADU5B at the same time. When the fancy takes me I use it as a road car to exercise it, and keep it fresh, what a chore! I don't doubt it's active, it's just that I've been away from the classic car scene for a good few years  ;) BTW, is there a listing somewhere of old rally cars, their whereabouts and owners/guardians?  I've got Robson's Triumph 2000 book, so at least have an idea of original works and privateer hardware.  :)

  10. Slimboyfat wrote:No it will not! Bills 66 race car, is not the same as the rally car FHP993C he now owns, and is making an appearance at the NEC (once I have got it out and given it a once over). Oh...not seen Roy Fidler's car for...oh...fifteen years? Feeling old... ;D
  11. 6780 wrote:have you considered going the triple weber route?,    cheers,       Laurence I have indeed... :) Trouble (in a very positive sense) is that there are many options for the straight six, from mild (cam, jets) to wild (PI/EFI/Webers, cam, forged pistons/conrods/crank, 6:3:1 manifold, flywheel...).  It'd be quite fun to build a Q car, plain Jane on top but a real Porsche frightener  ;D
  12. Hi all, I'm investigating the idea of converting a TC/S spec engine into a PI one, along with all of the obvious fuel system changes required. Using a couple of Chris Witor's technical briefings, I've figured out that the camshaft, cylinder head, pushrods and distributor are different, but is there anything else I've missed? I guess it might be uneconomical to convert and easier to find a PI engine... ;D
  13. 1526 wrote:If a parts club/group (which I will be starting a thread on next week) gets started this is one of the things we would need to investigate the re-manufacture of (IF it can be done). I will need to acquire a really good rubber like this as a pattern.  I also need one for the Mk1 PI estate .......... Ted It can be done. Cost will be the issue, but at least cheap tooling (i.e. not volume, expensive) could be used. All vehicle systems suppliers use either their own, in-house or external prototype manufacturers.  Just a case of finding one who wants to help  :)
  14. Alan! You're probably missing your one true love, so I've found you a rare one: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C339970 :P
  15. mikew wrote: A percentage of the profit on the sale wouldn't hurt either, as the completion of the RBRR must have increased the car's value  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Have you noticed that when we mention money, Chatters goes very, very quiet? (shhh)
  16. mikew wrote: I think Alan should donate the fuel money he saved by using an Ashame on the RBRR rather than a real Triumph   ;D Now that's a good idea! Also, he didn't have any running repairs, so he must've saved even more loot  ;D
  17. Have no fear Mike, it's a decent car and a good runner, as this proves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhzW50tTy6U ;)
  18. Hello! For those of you who don't know me, I was the tall, iPad-carrying, bespectacled bloke hanging around the Sixpenny Handley control.  I turned up in my BMW (sorry, no Triumph yet - long story) just after the control opened and promptly turned around to park elsewhere in the village, given that it was a busy car park! Whilst I was there, I managed to take a bunch of video clips, just to give an impression of what it was like to see lots of Triumphs and tired crews, one of which is a short interview with Chatters and his beloved Acclaim: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X4GSxDxdhs If you search for "RBRR 2012 Sixpenny Handley" you'll find the rest of them, 13 in all, or if you're having trouble, I'll post the links later.
  19. Buy a car. Prepare it. Enter the RBRR for the 1st time. Find a co-driver. Get some sleep beforehand. ;D
  20. AlanChatterton wrote: Yeah yeah yeah. After 2300 miles in the hateful little piece of crap, I can honestly say..... never again. The choice was a cheap Acclaim or not compete........ next time I think I'll not compete. It will be on ebay tonight.............. trust me. Tonight I'll upload video evidence of your 'love' for that little Acclaim...  ;D
  21. Brilliant  ;D I can now announce that I'll be manning one of the Southern England controls for RBRR 2014 and that all Scots, Northerners and Midlanders are Macallan 10 Year Old Single Malt drinking softies.
  22. AlanChatterton wrote:Might be worth having a chat with Dave Marshall (Dave2000 on here), I think he's struggling to find a co-pilot? Coincidentally, I was just having a browse on YouTube and searched "RBRR", only to reveal a video you shot a while back...  ;D
