Gearbox matches Engine ?

The question has to be "Which 2000 engine?"
The Vitesse 1600 gearbox wasn't considered adequate by Standard Triumph, so a stronger version (still arguably inadequate) was used for the 2-litre models. The clutch will certainly be different, and if your engine comes from one of the big saloons, there's a good chance it has a longer crank, ie flywheel closer to the gearbox. We'll need an engine number to give you a meaningful answer,
Cheers,
Bill.
the cylinder head is 517528, does that mean its a vitesse 2.0 mk2
Possibly, but the engine number will be far more meaningful. This is stamped on the top face of the block adjacent to the rearmost spark plug.
Cheers,
Bill.

As Bill has already pointed out above, if you are going to have a 2L engine, you really need to have the proper gearbox and diff to match.  The 1600 items are known to be marginal even for the 1600 so to re-use these is inviting failure.

For the diff you should fit 3.89:1 (original to 2L Vitesse) or 3.63.  These can be identified by the round input flange.  These were also fitted to MkIV and 1500 spitfires which makes them easier to find although these will have 4 spring bolt holes rather than 6.

For the gearbox you need the proper item from a 2l Vitesse or GT6.  If you have a decent overdrive 1600 one you may find a trader who will do you a p/ex.

May be a bit of a pest to source and fit this (although mods needed will be minor) but will be well worth the effort.
