Stuart Wilson
I've just got some 15" MGF Alloys to go on the TR, what size tyres are people using?I'm thinking 185/55 or maybe a 195/50 ??
Clive
You will find the 195/50 are MUCH cheaper for the same tyre. So if they will fit, that is what I would use.I have 185/55 on my toledo, and there is zero rear arch lip left after trimming, so I don't think I will get 195/50's to fit. Which is irritating! Howard
Since 2015 I have run CONTINENTAL PREMIUM CONTACT 5 185's tyres all round on my 7 which is fitted with MGF original style wheels with TR8 discs and Princess Calipers. From 2008 I used PREMIUM CONTACT 2 with 205's fitted at the rear & 185's at the front which gave equally good handling, but on the poorer roads in Scotland during the RBRR the rear tyres occasionally rubbed the bodywork. Road holding and handling has been totally satisfactory with both types & the car usally covers between 3 & 6k/year
chris2
My tr7 had 185/55/15 front and 205/50/15 when I got l changed then to 185/55/14 all round I used tiresome. com tyre-size-calculator to check for the size diameter tyres for speed to revs and speedo my was about 1-2% out
Stuart Wilson
I've found the 195/50 are a good bit cheaper, hopefully they will fit
Beans
How wide are the MG rims? With 7"rims 195/55 or 205/50 are pretty close to the original 185/70-13 tyres. In my car ('t Kreng) the speedo is spot on with these tyres. 195/0 are to small. Howard
Mine are 185/55/15 and the rolling circumference is very close to the original tyres - as Chris mentions its 1 - 2% out at mostH
Steve AKA vitessesteve
I run 205/50 on 15" wheels - no problem with clearances.
