You will find the 195/50 are MUCH cheaper for the same tyre. So if they will fit, that is what I would use.

I have 185/55 on my toledo, and there is zero rear arch lip left after trimming, so I don't think I will get 195/50's to fit. Which is irritating!

Since 2015 I have run CONTINENTAL PREMIUM CONTACT 5 185's tyres all round on my 7 which is fitted with MGF original style wheels with TR8 discs and Princess Calipers.

From 2008 I used PREMIUM CONTACT 2  with 205's fitted at the rear & 185's at the front which gave equally good handling, but on the poorer roads in Scotland during the RBRR the rear tyres occasionally rubbed the bodywork.

Road holding and handling has been totally satisfactory with both types & the car usally covers between 3 & 6k/year
