John Bonnett
Before I fit the rear lights, I'd appreciate a bit of advice please. There is a foam gasket which fits between the lamp unit and the body. Is the gasket sufficient on its own to make a weatherproof seal or should I use mastic as well?Thank youJohn
TimW
JohnI used the only the foam and can confirm that this is more than enough to keep the water out. Found this out when we drove through a MASSIVE storm in Germany on the 10CR this year.
rotoflex
I think it was just the gasket from the factory.Junkyard lights came off pretty easily.

hypoid53
Probably a bit academic now John but THE best solution is to fit the original rubber type gasket used on the Mk4 Spitfire. No longer available, alas, but they do turn up on e-bay from time to time.I got my Spitfire and GT6 equipped that way.
thescrapman
I would use a smear of mastic, just for additional sealing, between lamp unit and rear panel. The gasket under teh lenses definately needs additional sealant.I got a good gasket, put mastic round the edges and stuck it to the lamp body. Then ran mastic round the edges of the lenses and stuck the lenses to the gasket, then tightened it all up.I has also made sure all the reflectror areas were nice and shiney.CheersColin
TimW
guess it's down to personal preference then because i see no need to use any additional sealant.
