Will It Ever Run Again
Hello all. Just about to buy a brake pipe bending/flaring kit but it's raised the question: do I need a metric kit or an imperial version? Thanks all.
RedRooster
Imperial.
yorkshire_spam
Are you sure red? I have vague memories of the fronts on 1500 spit being metric. Metric heads or threads not sure though.
WIMPUS
I know the flexi brake lines are 3/8 unf or something (but for sure UNF !).. Don't know again what size all the rest was :B
RedRooster
All UNF, though the modern ones take a metric spanner for some reason.RR

The key is to get a flaring kit that will make the ISO bubble flare as that is the special thing about the brake lines on our Triumphs. There is so little difference between 4.75 mm brake line and 3/16" brake line that any tool designed to work one will work the other. Some late 1500 Spitfires have metric fittings on the master cylinder and PDWA. All other fittings are imperial. Cheers, Paul

yorkshire_spam
Also..... where are you based? Maybe a helpful club member might help you out with a loan on the kit required to make the required pipes?
