32valves Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Yes, the 6 and 12 vane pumps have different covers that are not interchangeable. There is an angled surface around the inside of the cover that should fit almost flush to the vanes on the pump. Got them mixed up ? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

dolomiteman Posted October 21, 2005 Share Posted October 21, 2005 To identify one from the other run your finger down the chamfer where the impellor sits and project beyond. If your finger lands the other side of the central button then it is a twelve vane cover, if it lands the same side then it is a six. To further complicate things there are two types of six, one where the impellor blades have a machined flat top and one where they extend up to the central boss, each having its own cover! Whilst incompatible it is actually possible to fit a 12 with a late 6 cover thinking they match visually but they don't actually and causes massive cavitation.
