Matt306
I have my Tr7 2.0l with the uninspiring brakes up front. Having read I can buy a kit from S&S for £395 plus vat. The brain then went on to the plan I can probably assemble it for less than that. Ebay has Princess spaced callipers for 150 however I am not sue of how the fitting works etc. I have the factory 13 alloys. Any help/guide/pointers appreciated. mikeyb
It has been a while since I looked at it, but I have the S&S conversion - vented discs with spaced Princess calipers. IIRC the calipers just bolt on. I am running with MGF 15" alloys though. Princess calipers would seem to be quite hard to find now though. I suspect that there are better aftermarket alternatives. Matt306
I was hoping beans would chirp up! I did have a look at his excellent blog but couldnt find the information i want. The kits are great but I am wondering if i can save some pennies by buying seperately. I found these brand new https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153461605920?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D232196%26meid%3Dd5d1688217e544a897572312954463ae%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D153461286829%26itm%3D153461605920%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv9PairwiseUnbiasedWeb%26brand%3DOE+Quality+Friction&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851|from ebay just wondering what else i need. RobPearce
Sometimes you can save pennies buying separately but sometimes you discover you've got some wrong bits or are missing some that turn out to be hard to find. I'm sure you'd never dream of accounting for your mechanicing time in your costings but if you tot up the time spent hunting down those elusive bits and charge it at, say, minimum wage, you may find you're not really saving anything. Beans
When I restored 't Kreng in the mid 90's I first fitted Princess callipers. But not impressed with them. Changed to a Ford based set up using spaced M16 callipers and ø245x20mm vented Capri discs with hub spacers. And I still use a similar set up on my DHC. Biggest advantage off the M16 callipers are better dust seals, better pad availability and better performance. Though depending on brand these callipers might need a tiny amount of material taken of to clear the back of the hubs. More info in this part of my blog (part 1 to 6) Edited May 10, 2021 by Beans
