Bainzy Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Does anyone make a simple solenoid that can be plumbed into a car's fuel line in the boot, that cuts off the fuel supply to a mechanical pump when electrically activated?Just thinking this would be a nice alternative to having to install a (potentially noisy) electric fuel pump when coming up with an immobiliser circuit....
junkuser Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 They are used in duel fuel gas conversions so should be available.
piman Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hello Bainzy, why not just fit a fuel tap in the boot, much simpler? The picture shows mine, just to the right of the fuel filter. Handy for maintenance also with a P.I.Alec

Bainzy Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 Cheers guys. Alec I really like that fuel tap, that would save so much faffing as well when working on the fuel system! Was it expensive?
piman Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hello Bainzy, no it wasn't expensive but it's many years ago since I bought it (From Chris Witor, if I rember correctly?)Alec
Jason Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I had an electric fuel tap in a previous car, not the best thing in all the world, I'm not sure how good it was a restriction that gathered any bits of scale that floated about in the tank. It eventually blocked and led to the car lettting me down a few times before I figured it out. I put a clear throw away filter before the tap so I could see what was going on, never did have a problem after that :-)I think this is the one that was fitted to my car http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/hoses/fuelpumps.php#atv
