mark spit
Hi,I have a slightly noisy 3.89:1 in my MkIV Spit. I've got a known good 3.89:1 to change to, but also have the option of going to a known good 3.63:1.I know from James' dead useful speed calculator I'll get 5mph extra at 3500 rpm, or around 200rpm reduction at 70mph.Has anyone else done this change and did you notice the effect on acceleration. Not that I've ever timed my car off the line.I've got more bhp and about the same torque as a standard 1500 from my 1300 at present.Comments please.ThanksMark
Deleted User
i love the 3.27 on a motorway :D 90=3400rpm ;D tbh i dont think youd notice THAT much difference between the 2, will probably notice some but not a great deal
mark spit
Don't think that my little 1300 would pull the 327 to well (even if there was one around). My pal went from 327 to 389 in his GT6 and had to go back cos it was revving it's nuts off on the motorway. Took off like a scalded cat though. I can keep up with him to around 75 at present in a straight line on my 389 and him on 327. Mind you, he's toast in the twisty bits.Mark

Deleted User
i used some calculator ages ago my dad helped me out with that works out the best diff for your car, cant remember how he did it. But it ended up working out that the standard 1500 diff seems to be perfect for the 1500 engine.
James
I'd stick with the 3.89 on the 1300 small crank.3.27 is a bit too long unless you have a snorting 2.5 straight 6 in there... a 3.89 turns it in to a sports car... 3.63 is probably ideal for a 2 litre?
