Clive
A friend is fitting (or rather I am for him) a 1500 spit engine into his herald. Now thats all straightfoward, but he wants to use the std stromberg carb, because thats what he has. SO........ will it be OK to use the std needle, or does it need to be changed? If so, any advice please! (personally I am a SU man, know nothing about strombergs!)Many thanksClive
Steve Cureton
I believe the 1500 carb has a 1.5" mouth but the Herald has 1.4", have you cheked you've got the right one? I don't know about the needle sorry. That should have read 1.25" for a Herald
Smallfry
USA spec Spitfires had a single Stromberg carb, so you can get the correct needle info from a manual. Personally, my advice would be to throw it over the neighbours hedge and fit an SU instead. And it just so happens.................................. heraldcoupe
Quoted from Smallfry USA spec Spitfires had a single Stromberg carb, ...a CD150, amongst other "refinements" which make them slow...VERY slow. Usual form with single carb 1500s is to use a 1 3/4" carb, ie SU HS6, or I suppose a Stromberg CD175 if you're a masochist. Strombergs are fine for standard applications, but there are far fewer needle options, so tuning to suit is unlikely to be straightforward.Cheers,Bill.
