  1. I agree, make one! How far is your car stripped? When I did dirks spitfire (see mk2 restoration) I welded in a cross frame, a big 'X' that way it supports the tub, but allows you the room when you lean into the car for welding the sills, no banging your head on the bar! It is now fitted into the mk3 awaiting the sills to be chopped out!
  2. I have been continuing with the engine top end clean/check/rebuild Considering this should be a professionally rebuilt performance engine from a reputable triumph specialist, I must say I'm not so happy with some of the work done, I have been busy fixing The less than perfect work! It will be better once I have fettled it. Be good to get it back into the chassis! 🙂

  4. Cracking work, nicely done and even better because it's father/son time! I do also agree, gloves and sleeves when welding, I learnt the hard way when I started out. Keep up the great work and pace! But you do realise once he is old enough to drive you won't see the gt6 anymore! 😉
  5. Sorry chaps, but the pictures are perfect on mine! 🙂

  11. Started to do a little work on the engine. Wanted to change head gasket for peace of mind.

  13. Looking good my friend, can't wait to see it in the flesh when I return to cold Belgium, 🙂  (working in the heat of Abu Dhabi) Use the calliper a from my mk3, perhaps just need a quick rebuild kit throwing in, we will have a look when I'm back. Cheers Shaun

  15. As bainzy said, Rustbusters is good. I used it on my amphibious truck, and if doing a small job then just mix up a small amount, (I used two jam jars to measure the same amount then mix it in another pot) it is really good, strong stuff. Once I mixed up too much and there was some left in the bottom of the pot! When it was dry it had set nice rubbery and hard! 🙂
  16. You say your diff is noisy? What noise, a rumbling? A whine? Could be worth just rebuilding your diff, you are going to strip it for the seals anyway!! 😉 Is it a daily driver or just a fun toy?
  17. Looking good, and it's nice to get your son involved (great that he wants to, my friend has two boys and neither are interested in working on the cars!) But I would suggest to buy a automatic welding helmet, it will improve and make it easier to weld! They are not so expensive, my old one is over 15 years old, it still works fine but I treated myself to a new one last year! Keep up the good work!
  18. Ooh exciting times! Will have to buy some covers, and that low tack blue tape to protect the edges etc. when we start putting her back together!
  19. Is there any shims under the pinion bearing? (At the tooth end) if so take off the bearing again and remove another, and retry, unfortunately setting up diff's is a long process, Shimming, bearing on, testing, bearing off shimming and so on! And as Marcus says, when you change the pinion, readjust the crown wheel!  :) I presume that is engineers blue on the teeth (the top two look like blue marker pen)
  20. That's the problem, because people see the price other cars are advertised and think there's is worth the same, so it artificially inflates prices! And so on. It happens in all hobbies I suppose.

  22. It does look nice, but HOW much!  ??) And you are correct, there are some defects in that front wing, so what's the rest of the body that we can't see like!
